I hope this shit blows up in their face big time.

I hate that theres so much streaming-only content. I sure as hell wont be making any digital purchases unless theyre like dirt cheap OR they make it easy to make my own discs.

Which is a bit weird. I cancelled Netflix because of the password thing on top of me barely using it, and Hulu while I was at it, because I realized if I just bought the things I wanted to watch and ripped them to host on Jellyfin / Plex / Emby, Id spend a lot less than the $408 or so a year I was paying to subscribe to both of them, and that way, I dont even have to worry about them being rotated off.

I will always subscribe to Amazon Prime for the free two day shipping, and a friend shared Max with me, so Ive got plenty to watch for the two nights a week I actually watch something.

I don't even know the last time I watched a DVD. Almost everything I watch I get over the air for free (well, minus the one time expense of the antenna). We have the Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ bundle plus Peacock. If it weren't for the kids we wouldn't have that... Also watch some stuff on Pluto.

They're done as well.

I really need to pick up some more 4k Disney/Fox blu-rays before they're all gone. Got Alien, Predator and Die Hard. Don't care about owning the MCU stuff.

Anything else I need to priotise? Probably Avatar?

Edit: Just bought Toy Story 4 after this news lol

I've gone full circle with physical/digital content. At first I loved the convenience but started to realize that if something I really like and want to watch/play/or listen isn't on a platform, I don't have access to it.

I've had it happen with old games no longer listed on Xbox marketplace, so I've repurchased disc versions. I used to have 500+ CDs and sold them due to space thinking Spotify and digital platforms would have me covered to find sometimes a band may have albums with one label listed but not albums they made with another label. I've recently started getting into vinyl and am rebuilding my library of essentials.

Same with movies and whether one studio is listed on Movies Anywhere or Vudu, etc and keeping track of what was purchased where so now back to picking up my favorites on 4K or BR when on sale. Great point about prioritizing Fox now before they become exorbitant on eBay.

I know it's all personal preference but I now like having it on shelf for whenever I want to watch it again.

Very few streaming made shows and movies are released on physical. Part maybe that writers and actors will get paid a percent in doing so.

People buy vinyl again, but otherwise I think I said this already yesterday but I never go to the store looking to buy a DVD or heck blu-ray. I was looking at my smallish DVD collection and I was like oh Wedding Crashers, I remember buying the uncorked edition that was a good time.

WWE also ceased their physical releases and magazine some time ago. I own the last WWE Magazine ever loose but in good shape. Probably worth 5 dollars hah.

I still buy a select few movies, but they're the ones I want in maximum quality such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Blade Runner 2049, Dune, etc... the movies that may not be in 4K on streaming anyway but also tend to vanish from streaming entirely for long chunks of time.

Obviously with digital these servers can edit and remove things at will, but if you don't already say have the Simpsons or Seinfeld on DVD why would you be looking to buy them new now anyways. Plus youtube is full of clips and stuff of them.

The one thing I wanted on DVD was Bojack Horseman. Which I looked up and there was season 1 and 2 released physically, but that was it as some sort of limited release. I was just too lazy to order it. Definitely still on eBay or wherever.

There's plenty of movies that are being remastered in 4k simply because people will actually buy physical releases of them. There's almost no reason to put the time, money, and effort into it otherwise.

(And I mean actual, proper 4k with new scans - not just digitally enhanced like Disney's 4k releases for example).

It's not just Disney movies. It's all of their catalogs so no Touchstone Pictures or Fox films either. A large part of that stuff is not on Disney+.

From the sounds of this though, it's just Disney's distribution operation that is pulling out of Australia. There's nothing stopping them from licensing to distributors there, like Umbrella, to handle that aspect which hopefully does happen for the fans there so they don't have to pay extremely high import costs.

Marvel and Star Wars films may hang on. The TV shows already aren't released on physical. The Live Action remakes and animated movies do seem long for this world in physical. Don't think most kids understand what a disc is and how to use it. The trend is already set.

Doubt it. Disney seems pretty content with a major Canadian retailer (Best Buy Canada) no longer carrying their physical media. I doubt they'll strike a side deal.

It's no coincidence that streaming services aggressively suggest that you skip the closing credits. Writers are the lifeblood of the industry and producers want you to think that their job is to clean the toilet from time to time.

They are literally banking on you forgetting to cancel the sub. While I'm not in the media space, I am in sub based services, and most subs don't become profitable until at least the 6 - 9 month mark and at least 3 to break even, a *lot* of people forget, and then it falls outside of the refund policy.
