That just takes a dump on his character. So they killed Nick Fury's character, why not Rhodey too.

This is the kind of stuff that's been happening in comics since the beginning. It's not character assassination when its the same stuff they've been doing to all their character for 75 years.

I literally can't tell you one thing of note Rhodey has done in the MCU

I mean, this person thought the finale of Secret Invasion was fit to print. Of course he thinks this is a good idea.

The director of the show doesn't make decisions for the MCU as a whole, and we won't know for sure when Rhodey was replaced until they make an actual commitment one way or the other.

Should have made the change between IM1 and 2 for lols.

My guess is they want it to be open to civil war timeframe but didnt commit to it because they didnt want to box in armor wars writers so they didnt fully confirm. If its civil war then the gwon makes sense as thats what it hints. If its not civil war, rhodey was captured during a routine colonoscopy

I can see how this could set up some interesting plotlines in future projects considering Nick Fury not only killed somebody who was an active member of the Avengers (regardless of whether he was a Skrull or the real James Rhodes), but that the Avengers themselves had been infiltrated by Skrulls for years and none of them suspected a thing.

Yeah, I've been reading about this everywhere since the last episode.

It would be really fucking stupid. My guess is that it's obviously ambiguous and gets people talking, but the reality will be that it probably happened after Endgame or Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

Honestly the hospital gown's a red herring - he'd likely have multiple surgeries and work done for his injury in Civil War, and they couldn't nab him until after the final surgery, because trying to do any work on Skrodey that involved cutting him open would immediately reveal him.

So it would make sense that he was nabbed sometime later, but we'll see what they go with.

to be fair, nick fury in the comics is kinda a dick and sometimes (or often?) even the antagonist of the story

isn't he always quasi-good and quasi-evil, anyway? movie version nick fury is just more badass than he's ever supposed to be, imo.

and as much as i love War Machine, it honestly doesn't bother me if it was a skrull behind it or not. i just want more War Machine.

I mean, presumably Kevin Feige thought the Secret Invasion finale was fit to print as well...

Bottom line is, nobody likes a retcon, especially a character-based retcon; the only way to sell one is to make sure it's airtight, and this isn't. Sure, Rhodey getting Principal-and-the-Pauper'd isn't going to singlehandedly kill anyone's interest in the MCU, but it is going to leave a sour taste in the mouths of people like me who are invested in the MCU primarily because of the characters.

It would be pointless for it to be any time prior to immediately before the show started. If he missed all the major events post civil war, his whole arc for Armor Wars is just going to be catching up. And unless they revisit the skrulls, him being an inflator for years setting up an invasion that has now come and gone is pointless.

and in almost all of these he's standing stiffly in the background in a cgi big daddy lmao

I wouldn't mind the twist of Rhodey being a Skrull since Civil War, but I have a feeling that the MCU won't do anything interesting with that revelation
