1. The game is probably gonna be new gen so assuming they are running it on a whole new engine, some deep cuts are expected.
2. Certain characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Android 18 I believe would be revamped with different movesets, different attire, etc.
3. Gohan (Beast) and Ganma #1 & #2 will be unlockables but can be purchased via DLC or a pre-order bonus
4. The new original villain is a direct replacement of Android 21

They got rid of the grappler character never knew I always wanted

I wouldn't spend over $10 on that game in this scenario.

Let's let a new series get a good game, like One Piece or Jojo or something

You're assuming we're getting a 2 but there's a bunch of options and apparently one piece is a possibility

Aside from potentially Naruto or One Piece, no other anime is gonna be anywhere near as successful as Dragon Ball getting the same treatment.

Plus DBFZ sold over 10 million copies and is still one of the played fighting games at tournaments so a sequel is pretty much guaranteed.

And I would love to see them add characters from pre-Z Dragonball, obvious picks being Mercenary/Cyborg Tao, King Piccolo, and Launch would be fun if they can make her work

EDIT: Oh, and Nam, get him in here too

I would add General Blue to the list because his psychic powers would be fun to build a moveset around, but he might be too close to on-the-nose Nazi imagery.

Of the Super characters listed I do think that there are a lot of good picks from that series; writing quality aside, it's a great vehicle for pitching fighting game characters, lol. I'd add Moro, Gas, and Seven-Three, because they all have a lot of fun moveset potential.

A second game will just be the first game again selling you dlc characters you already own for the first game.

Fighting game sequels tend to change a lot from the last game these days. I imagine ArcSystem overhauling the combat to be more friendly to playstyles outside rushdown, adding and improving single-player content, adding alternate costumes (they were planned for DBFZ), and rollback will be much easier to implement into a new game than forcibly implemented into an already existing game.

Why couldnt Jojo All Star Battle R have rollback? Why???? That game deserved so much more.

Because fighting game fans just love paying for characters they already own. They would have been so so happy to pay for the likes of base Goku and Vegeta a second time.

It's not really my decision but it seems like something the producers would do. They probably wouldn't be part of the story (21 is dead and would be replaced) and 16 isn't a super popular character.

And if being dead or unpopular is a reason to leave a character out, why would you include people like Zarbon and Raditz?

Hell, Android 21 is so popular she got a nod in Super Hero; Gero's wife looking like 21 is canon.

It's part of the story. Nappa and Ginyu were revived due to the circumstances of the story.

Anyways, it's more of a prediction than anything else.

"They can't be here because they're dead" as if that has literally ever mattered in Dragon Ball

they are not scaling the cast based on the show, like youre saying krillin is really strong right now he has a strong assist

This is the way every fighting game works. The tradeoff being the characters aren't going to be carbon copies and will have notable differences from previous games.

will see, i think the devs that made dbfz probably works on gg strive and the new gran blue at the moment, and they are probably doing the final work on dbfz with the rollback patch

If you choose Goku, Super Saiyan Goku and Gogeta on your team, he would be the only individual on that team and you can power up and power down instead of switching out. Each form would have their own separate life bar. Vegeta makes a cameo when Goku powers up to Gogeta.

Whereas if you choose Goku, Vegeta and Gohan to be on your team, none of them can power up.

The game would still be the same either way with switching to another team member looking different

its a novel idea, are you sure you want it in a serious 2d anime fighter?

their working on tenkaichi 4 your idea would be a good fit for that game

21 and 16 would definitely return in a sequel if it happens, 16 is in iconic character and 21 is pretty popular, she's been added to nearly every single Dragonball game since her debut, the only one she's currently missing in right now is The Breakers but so are a lot of characters like Janemba, Broly and Cooler, she'll either be a raider or a transphere at some point if the game goes on for years and years

This doesn't really work in a fighting game though. Installs like that are a balancing tool, and trying to do that would either mean the characters are worthless or their strongest forms are never seen.

It would be a nightmare to balance. The only way it could work is by making them a glorified stat boost like Budokai which admittedly kinda lame.
