As a centrist, I dont think the Dems are doing enough. Its unhelpful to say the Repubs broke it - the question is why arent the Dems fixing it?

You see, because we have a two party system, that means that both parties are inherently valid just by virtue of existing and their actions and beliefs can do nothing to detract from that validity. That's why no party has ever dissolved in the entire history of the country and there has definitely only ever been Democrats and Republicans. And because these two parties have unassailable validity, that means that the correct stance is always going to be in between them. And by between them, that of course means between whatever Republicans want and whatever Republicans say Democrats are allowed to want, because Republicans have control of the narrative and how could they control the narrative if they didn't deserve to?

Could have fooled basically everybody else because they sure love doing just that.

I'm a centrist, but more of a bitter nihilistic one than both sides one. I believe that every politician is fueled entirely by self interest these days and outside of staying in office couldn't give a single fuck less about the public so the parties don't really matter.

That said I still vote based on what I believe would be best for most people and would trend things closer towards everyone just being able to live happily, which has at least in recent history made me side almost exclusively with one party, but I feel no loyalty nor love for either.

But when it comes to actual law making and what the parties stand for, it's a no contest. But there are some incredibly bad takes "on the left".

It seems like a lot of online "centrists" are people who want to criticize others for their positions but don't want to take a position of their own so they can't be criticized for theirs.

I've told people about this exchange that I had, yes. The original conversation was with another parent that had their child in the same day care that my younger child was in. When I went to pick him up I had my daughter with me who was wearing a shirt with Snow White on it. That's when she went in on "You actually let her watch that?"

I really haven't had another conversation about it, other than retelling the story, but there are MANY people with that same viewpoint. Yes, you can find most of them "on the internet" where people take their viewpoints to the extreme, but this is just one of 100 examples of "You're either with us 100%, or your the enemy" that a lot of people "on the left" like to brand people with.

I 100% understand that this was an extreme experience on my part, and 99% of people don't care about what shows I let me daughter watch. But the fact that those people exist is why I feel I have to label myself a "not all-in" Liberal.

In general, it's really not a good idea to be in lock step 100% with anyone else's viewpoint.

Centrists (and the mythical "undecided voters") are almost always embarrassed republicans.
