It probably could have been a PG in the 80s, but it does have some sexual innuendo, and surprisingly a lot of talk about genitalia (Barbie outright says that she has no vagina and Ken has no penis when some men hit on her lol)

Nah, it definitely is.

Like, I was watching the movie and immediately thought to myself that the alt-right chuds on YouTube are gonna be raging over it.

It really doesn't mince any words when it comes to talking about patriarchy and the double standards placed on women by society.

Plus there's surprisingly a lot of anti-capitalism talk.

But it doesnt say anything that isnt true, though. Also a lot of the patriarchy moments are a bit tongue in cheek, like almost using the word in a satire way.

The problem is the people that cant take a nuanced discussion and will see things black and white. Will end up thinking the movie sends an anti men message.

Oh. I fully agree with you. I don't think anything was wrong with its messaging or themes, but the impotent online chuds are definitely gonna blow a gasket just because it dared to be pro-feminism

Right. Its just a good ol thriving for equality feminism message. Why the fuck are people mad about equal treatment? Oh things are better now? Well most state congress and company CEOs still seem to be overwhelmingly male with not a single female president in the US through all this time.

Are they mad that they sorta did a trojan horse with the message on a movie that used a kid IP? Saying there goes woke Hollywood feeding their politics on our kids while they go and politicize the sound of freedom movie?

Like its so fucking frustrating it feels like were decades back trying to explain what should be basic human rights and them making am issue about it

When you're used to superiority, equality can feel like you're getting hard done by, even when that equality is achieved by lifting unequal people up rather than taking anything from the dominant group.

I also think that some people think that once they're no longer the only people at the top of the chain, they will be treated the same way they treated people beneath them.

From word of mouth it seems like the movie's overall message is equality for all instead of putting everyone in pre determined roles and expectations.

Yeah, it's pretty woke for the south east Asian audience and I enjoyed it because I hang out on Gfaqs for a long time so I can understand the nuances & what message the movie is trying to send.

Unfortunately my gf didn't think the same and the movie bored her to tears. I wouldn't exactly say that she's not exposed to the world beyond SEA, but words like woke & patriarchy do not register in her at all.
