I assume DeSantis grew up with an education system similar to the one he wants Florida to have if he really believes that any skill they learned would somehow benefit them with the sole minor exception of skills that'd help bring them to freedom anyways.

They could have learned those same skills without being slaves.

He studied history at Yale and graduated magna cum laude. At some point you would think they just revoke his degree. It's honestly hard to tell whether he's deluded himself into believing all of his own crap or is just playing the politics game "well".

If you call defending it saying " yeah I wasn't apart of that" then proceeding to give no better examples since most of the ones given by the supposed Florida department of education were of people that weren't even enslaved in their lifetime. And then just going....yeah it was just based on facts that they have and in no way was political, when we already know their facts are blatantly wrong and there is nothing else left to explain it but being racist, uneducated, lying, willfully spreading disinformation, and being blatantly political since it's part of his core policies to make education like he has shaped this department to be across America. Something he calls make America Florida.

I would say he attempted to defend it, failed miserably, and only succeeded in making his core policy look like trash at a time he is losing donors and running out of money while dropping in the poles and losing support.

Enslaved Africans came here with a number of skills already. Slaves were brought to the Carolinas in particular for their knowledge and techniques on growing rice. Those skills didn't do much good over those 250 years of chattel slavery and stolen labor and wealth though. These Republicans can fuck all the way off.

It's absolutely easier to get more in tune with extreme tendencies when you can have thousands echoing you. For a group, it's even easier to try and pander to people you know are already loud and angry. It's never been easier to find them as it is now. So, it certainly helped.

At this point it doesn't matter if he believed it or not. He's promoting it to people who do. Adolf Eichmann didn't give two shits about Jews but it didn't stop him from murdering them so he could gain and keep his position of power and authority and all the things that come with it.

There are other potential pros to slavery such as many people and things today/in history wouldnt exist or have existed without it (obviously can be a con too), but again the cons greatly out number the small list of pros. I mean you can probably find pros even in the most horrible things, but they dont justify the horrible acts, nor excuse them.

Sorry I am obviously not expressing my intended message correctly. I will try and summarize.

Slavery is/was horrible, but even horrible things can have subjective pros and cons depending on how one looks at them, but even if you can possibly find pros they often, and definitely in the case of a Slavery dont excuse or justify the horrible.

Also not saying learned skills were a pro, but even if they were in some way they would be a small pro next to a huge list of cons.
