I used to live in a city with a nickel arcade and let me tell you, when a continue is 5 cents instead of 25-50 these games suddenly become much, much more beatable.

Learning how to fight a boss in a Souls game to the point where you go from getting crushed to the one doing the crushing.

On a smaller scale, lots of timing based dodge/parry things, especially if they come with a sound effect. Souls parrying, Zelda BOTW/TOTK bullet time on perfect dodges, etc.

Almost all the old Japanese light gun games are beatable on one credit, though the longer you survive on one credit the harder the game's adaptive difficulty becomes (the majority of arcade games have this, it's colloquially called "rank," and beating some games on one credit requires careful management of this feature by intentionally losing a life at certain points).

Modern western light gun games, on the other hand, are explicitly not beatable on one credit. They all have settings where the operator decides the minimum and maximum time a single credit can last for. The damage any individual enemy deals you is completely arbitrary and doesn't matter at all. Once you reach that time limit, the next time you get hit it will immediately take all of your health (and there are frequent points at which you will take unavoidable damage).

that rigged-ness is even worse than I woulda thought!!

the jigglypuff stuff made me think of coming back after youre down to one stock with over 50% and they still have two stocks. that release of tension feels great
