News articles and the like really oversold the dive in quality. When I heard that season 3 was going through re-writes I was nervous and thought it was gonna be bad like B99 season 8's level of bad, but I'm already halfway through the season and it doesn't seem bad... these are still the same characters we love to see.

First joke of the season:

Flight attendant: "I once held an entire plane hostage until I beat the final level of breath of the wild"

Me: I... what? Writers, it cost you literally nothing to not put that line in, and literally everything to actually write it and make an actor say it. Not even the big bang theory would have had a line like that...

That felt like a worrisome start to the season lol.

With Season 3, I felt that the first few episodes felt off somehow, but felt it was back on track with the Amsterdam episode and I enjoyed the rest of the season after that.

It became a bit of a problem of its own success once season 3 rolled around. So many of the secondary characters became popular that they felt they all needed their own storyline, when the focus shouldve always been about Ted and his relationships with everyone.

This I do agree with, it starting to get ridiculous...

my only issue so far (i'm up to amsterdam) is the focus on keeley's company. keeley is cool, but i don't care about anybody in that company. i'd rather be seeing more of the team.

I don't think it hit that big of a dive but I was definitely ready for it to be done and probably would not have been able to slog through even another episode. It just seems like the kind of show that has a naturally short lifespan.

Yeah I don't either but oh check this out her CFO is actually that one actress from the Ghosts series, Mary! Took me a bit to place where I'd seen her before.

It had to be worked to an ensemble show because all the promos and stuff made it seem like Sudeikis is leaving

The episode moo-moo in season 4 addressed a similar subject rather well with the racist cop, much better in fact.

My biggest gripe was how disconnected Nate's and Keeley's subplots felt from Lasso and the team.

I wouldn't call the season outright bad, but it's probably for the best to end the show here.

Part of the problem with Season 3 is that it feels like they had a bunch of ideas for season long story arcs and only had one season to try to fit them all in.

The first two seasons (minus the Coach Beard special episode in Season 2) both felt comparatively more focused, in terms of their season arcs and overall direction, than Season 3, which struggled to make all of its varying stories fit together.

I'm totally getting this vibe now. I just hope we don't get another repeat of that coach beard episode from season 2 shudder.

I think the fact that this "total football" thing is a real strategy in soccer is pretty cool, I like how they try to make the football interesting for americans by having all these trick plays and stuff like the way more flashy sports are played. Especially since the stereotype of soccer is currently that it's just "20 players running around a field for 90 minutes"

Keeley's "plot" is bad and Nate's "development" is undeserved.

Episode 8 subsequently reviewed the worst, but it recovered from there and most people were happy with the finale.

But that's the general gist of the gripes people had with the season.

It was bad, but somewhat course corrected near the end

the show forgot it was a comedy and became overly melodramatic, with way too many sappy monologues and montages set to entire, boring songs

even with trying to be a prestige drama, there were way too many plot points that would show up one or two episodes and then be entirely dropped. Thats ok if its a 30 minute comedy, but if Im trying to take a show seriously there have to be real stakes

oh and the Nate storyline was terrible, they made him into a villain and then redeemed him without putting in the work. Aimless

i did appreciate the bigger focus on football again compared to last season

Really? They had Nate hook up with the restaurant hostess? I was liking the subversions the show was doing that him gaining confidence (or faux confidence) doesn't mean that he gets any girl he wants, sometimes a girl isn't attracted to you and that's okay, you move on.

Who was rooting for this? Undeserved.

The worst thing was they went essentially directly from him being a huge asshole to expecting the audience to root for this

Amsterdam was my favorite episode in the entire series.

Otherwise I tend to agree with the other posters here. Though enjoyable, the side plots were very poorly done.

It's worth watching all of it, Ted Lasso is still one of the greatest shows of all time, and I like to think of it as the spiritual successor to Scrubs in terms of heartfelt emotional moments, engaging characters and strong performances.

Season 1 just set such a high bar. But it goes without saying that it's by far one of the best shows to watch, no 2 ways about it.

Did anyone feel like Rebecca's interaction with the boat guy was like a little mini Before Sunrise or something?

My issue with the season is (in my opinion) they knew specific scenes and moments they wanted to happen. And when you reach those moments the show shines and is as good as it was in season 1.

but outside of those moments. They had no clue what they were doing and its like they just randomly generated plot ideas to fill in the gaps or just had stuff happen off screen so they didnt have to come up with a reason why something was happening

Ok I just finished episode 10 and now I finally understand the complaints about Keely and Nate. That was the most tiresome, meandering episode I've ever seen and this is merely a 12 episode show, every episode should be tight and focused. It would be one thing if it was like typical TV seasons with a 20 episode order but this?

I mean fuck's sake the episode spends its runtime with Keely moping about because her company got its funding pulled, and then Rebecca just goes oh I'll give you the money for it? What a waste of our time this is not season 1 writers level.

And I don't know what they think they're doing with Nate.

Something mildly related I've wanted to ask since the season 2 finale but why in gods name is Nate wearing a wig? Initially when his hair was getting white-silver throughout last season I thought it was a reference to Jose Mourinho who they might be basing some of Nate on in terms of tactical genius and whatnot. But then the end credits for season 2 has him wearing a wig which was really obvious and I was like "um? why?"

When did Manchester City become such a powerhouse? I used to watch football in the 2000s and they were always a more middle of the pack type of team, not the absolute lowest but barely in the top ten either. Manchester United were the ones I remember being super strong. And Chelsea

Season 3 worked for me because I watched this mainly to watch the characters hang out, grow as people, and extol the virtue of kindness. I can't think of another show I have ever watched where plot was so irrelevant to me, but Lasso managed it. I just wanted to spend time with this group each week, and it didn't bother me much what specific things they were doing. And the characters were still great in season 3.

That said: Season 3 did do the worst job of the three seasons in terms of the nuts and bolts of plotting. It seemed a bit all over the place, and some of the plotlines felt rushed or unearned. I think the criticisms of season 3 are a bit overblown, but I understand it-especially if weak plotlines are something that bugs you and keeps you for going along for the ride.

I enjoyed Season 3, and hanging out with this group was still great. But the overarching story was a little bit off. .

The club was sold in 2008 to Sheikh Mansour from UAE who invested a shit ton of money. They've won the Premier League 7 times since (the last 3 years in a row), and this season they won the treble. So yeah, definitely a powerhouse now.

Welp, watched the finale. That was a cute ending.

Feeling unsatisfied though weirdly enough. I don't think I'm quite at the emotional level the show wants me to be. It's just so rushed and like a reverse season 8 got with happy ending instead of sad.
