Like a little diorama but with expressive animation

The animation is VERY expressive. There's little pantomime sections where Mario has to explain things since he doesn't speak, so he and the group put on a little play of what's going on. It's adorable. :)

You don't have to take everything people say 100% literal.

Furthermore, I would also suggest there's more to aesthetics than "looks photorealistic".

It's pretty obvious what they're trying to do with this remake: smooth out and clean up the visuals while retaining the actual style of the characters as they were.

It's why Mario has no neck. ;)

to be fair BOTW and Anal Tears Of The Kingdom doesn't look that great. If it just got rid of the bloom it wouldn't look so bad.

Graphics don't mean anything to begin with, and there are different types of art styles. Not every game needs to look realistic.

The primordial soup 3D look used for the game is absolutely disgusting and sprite based games that most SNES games use beat it any and every day of the week. Even some other games dabbling in the early 3D look like the Donkey Kong Country games (the first one coming out 2 years before Mario RPG by the way) look leagues better. Absolutely atrocious looking game, the remake could look like a gamecube game as people insist it does and still be a colossus of an improvement.

Appears to have some minor QOL changes and battle system updates. Will hopefully also fix some bugs along the way.

The original composer is also updating the soundtrack.

Before this got announced and I said SMRPG seems overrated considering its gameplay, people told me the art design and sprites made it a classic.

Now this is out and looks like a "Nintendo Hire This Man" guy is dropping assets around in Unreal Engine and people are saying it looks amazing.

It's got some additions to it judging by the trailer evidence, but we don't know the full extent of it.

We'll definitely get more info about it as it gets closer to release. But from what we've seen it's a full graphical upgrade as well as a re-done OST by the original composer, and probably Limit Break-esque new attacks.

Edit: And no, this genuinely looks good to me. The art style is nice and colorful, it looks like playable CG, and sometimes looks like it's hand-painted. This is absolutely nowhere near a "Unreal engine asset flip" like wtf.

CE is too small and insular a community for people to fall for the same trolls in every topic. It's kind of mind blowing.

Yeah, the Unreal "hire this man" complaints only work on realistic-looking mods, which this isn't even close to being. This game looks exactly as vibrant and cartoony as a Mario RPG remake should look

^You would be better off finding a screenshot of the Gamecube version.

That's not even remotely the same brah. People are mad at Pokemon BDSM because they're ignoring Platinum. Same with people being mad at Persona 3 Reload ignoring Portable and FES content. SMRPG never had an enhanced version

The difference there is people knew what they were getting. It was unquestionably not Platinum, and never marketed or advertised to possibly mislead anyone into believing it'd be Platinum.

judging strictly by the screenshots (don't think there's any gameplay videos yet), it looks like they're gonna keep the isometric 3D look. not sure if i like that idea. i think third person 3D perspective would be better, like SM64

I swear they showed 3 with the Subsistence camera view in the trailer.

Y'know I've got a sneaking suspicion Beveren willfully maintains ignorance about the actual facts on these kinds of releases so he can feel better about being this bitter.

it's just a way for people to legally play an old game without paying $100+ for the original copy and $600 for an old CRT TV set up.
