Was using a 360-era wired Windows gamepad as my PC controller but it crapped out so I've been looking for replacements.

Figured I'd go wireless this time around and I figured it'd probably be better to stick with Microsoft

But these shits are still putting out wireless controllers running off AA batteries? And I gotta shell out an extra 30 bucks for a rechargeable battery to slot in?

wtf is this sewage

Not going to lie, they also don't last long. Either the d pad start double clicking or the shoulder pads start sticking. They are also a pain in the ass to take apart and fix also.

Yeah I have one ordered. Can I just use a USB c cable in to use it?

A lot of people defend the batteries but by the time like a ps4 controller battery fails, it's the next generation already. Or spending money on a new controller probably cheaper than buying all those AA batteries or buying rechargeable batteries with an AA battery charger.

Get an Elite 2 if you want wireless rechargeable and customization.

Get a cheap wired controller for no batteries at all, and they're generally cheaper too.

Use eneloops or whatever with a regular wireless controller.

Options are better than having to buy a whole new controller every time the battery shits the bed.

Hell, I'm still using my Elite gen 1 as a wired controller, I haven't touched a battery of any kind since like 2015.

Because Sony and Nintendo both have rechargable batteries in their controllers and pretty much every other major consumer electronic device on the market has a built in rechargeable battery.

My phone, my laptop, my bluetooth speakers, my e-reader, hell even my alarm clock lol.

But with M$ I need to get a bunch of AAs to shove into this thing or pay extra to get the ability to recharge my battery on the fly.

Been looking into 8bitdo like megaman suggested, definitely going that way instead.

Around the same price as the official M$ controller, wireless, rechargeable, and it even comes with a charging dock.

I have a ds4 from 2015. Can't hold a charge for more than an hour. Mainly my fault tho cuz I kept leaving it plugged in the USB for sometimes months at a time lol. Buttons all work still. No stick drift and no rubber coming off the stick. Just has shitty battery now.

I have a newer ds4 from 2020 or 2021 that has weird dead zone issue on left stick. Cleaned out the sensor area too but still has it. Idk why this one died on me so quick

A lot of people defend the batteries but by the time like a ps4 controller battery fails, it's the next generation already. Or spending money on a new controller probably cheaper than buying all those AA batteries or buying rechargeable batteries with an AA battery charger.
That was not my experience with the PS4 controller. I played it a lot, so after 2 years of constant use, the battery would die extremely quickly. And the USB C slot on the controller was so loose that I couldn't just plug in the wire and keep playing. The wire would fall out with any slight movement. So the solution was to buy another controller. And that was long before the PS5 came out.

The upside to the AA batteries is that you can get a pack of rechargeable ones for less than the price of a new controller. And since you have multiple sets of batteries, they last a long time before they stop holding a charge. I think more controllers should at least have that as an option.

And if you really want that "rechargeable controller" experience, you can buy a play & charge kit. Costs more than AA batteries, but you don't have to remove the battery to recharge it.

That said though, I didn't want to deal with any of that, so I just bought a wired Xbox One controller for my PC. I've had it for 3 years now and it still works great. Even has optional paddles that I can add or remove as needed.

Honestly, having both a PS4 and a Xbox I use fairly regularly - I 100% prefer having regular batteries for my Xbox controller.

There's so often that for some reason or another I'll turn on my PS4 and the controller will be dead, which basically just means I won't be playing today. But if that happens with my Xbox I can just pop in some new AAs and immediately hop into it. Same if I've had an extended play-session and the battery in the controller is dying. On the PS4 that means "suck it up, you're done for the day" and with Xbox it means a 5 second pause while I swap the batteries out.

Not to mention the actual batteries just last longer than the rechargeable battery for the PS4 controller.

I bought like 8 Rechargeable AAs like 2 years ago and haven't had the slightest of issues since.

Yup, but the difference is, after 5 or 6 hours all I have to do is plug a wire in. As opposed to buying a bunch of batteries until they run out, and then buy more. Oh, and keep the bunch of batteries handy whenever I need them, as if we don't lose them every now and then >_>

Sounds like either an issue with the controller/system or you're simply not plugging it in to recharge when you're not using it, since I've never had that problem in the 5 or 6 years I've had my PS4 and I play it all the time.
