As in, what JRPG has the dumbest group of people trying to save the world, who consistently make decisions that make no sense?

While everyone in 13 doing exactly what the villain wants them to do is incredibly dumb

It's not as dumb as putting your active assassination mission on hold to go apologize to an annoying brat that you correctly called an annoying brat.

Also Zell's entire existence is also dumber than doing exactly what the bad guys want.

13 does have Snow, though. Snow vs Zell is tough. But it's probably a dumbery win to Zell.

Honestly I'd struggle to find an RPG cast that isn't a gaggle of idiots, the way the stories are written they have to be idiots so the plot can happen in specific ways. They have to fall into an obvious trap, or do exactly what the enemy tells them to, in short when it comes to RPGs

collectively forget that they all actually grew up together and were raised by the antagonist? So yeah, gonna have to go with them

FF5. Bartz main personality trait is being stupid. But I love where they fight a holy serpant that tells them to stop what their doing and they keep going.

And having battled a siren who almost stole their souls by imitating their loved ones, everyone fals for a shitty imitation of King Tycoon by Exdeath

Also after the Siren encounter Lena didnt think to ask why Faris' loved one was her father?

Still I'll give them one credit when a party member dies, they actually do try to use Phoenix Down on them

Their plan worked by pure luck because the bad guys didn't just get rid of all of them immediately. Every decision up to that point was impulsive and reckless which got them there too.

The Investigation Team from Persona 4 are some of the worst "detectives" ever. Textbook case of plot induced stupidity.

FFV is a good answer. Great party though dumb as rocks.

Do tactics games count? If so, I nominate disgaea 1. You had a literal child acting like he's the greatest overlord ever but with no actual combat strength, the worst assassin that heaven has ever sent on a mission, and a short sighted demon so focused on her own goals that she's easily tricked into doing the villains bidding.

The bad guys plan was sound. When you want to get the d of a group, start by targeting their leader. Then once they're gone go after the other members.

No it wasn't because they were manipulating everything the entire time. Nobody would have given a shit if a bunch of teenagers went missing and the small amount of people who did miss them could also disappear. They were full of themselves and thought they'd be demoralized without Joker so they wanted them to feel scared before actually getting killed. Their plan also hinged completely on Sae believing them. Without that they were screwed.

Also, Akechi knew they were the Phantom Thieves since Madarame's Palace. Shido and Akechi were toying with them. That's purely so the story wouldn't end.

That's actually what got me to thinking about this, lol. I'm not really sure that they're the dumbest, but they would have been screwed if not for the intellect of Kratos, Raine, and Regal.

I would like to hear an explantion from the people who are saying FF8, because Squall ran circles around pretty much every villain that popped up in the game.

Star Ocean 4- It had literally worst characters cast while they acted like dumb ogres for number of times like Edge went EMO after he said he couldn't save freakin' Alternate Earth, Lymle despite being 16 years old but was dumb for almost got killed during a scene which Roak soldiers saved her, etc.

Suikoden III- Almost everyone especially Lulu was damned dumb.

FFIV- Party helped main antagonists to achieve their goals many times then one of antagonists found out that he had been used by someone who ended up final boss.

Agreed with FF13, but gonna toss Kingdom Hearts into the mix too.

Also how have so many FFs been mentioned but not a single mention of FF9?

The party ranges to multiple complete idiots to people who just have no idea of what is happening at all.

You spent most of the game chasing bad guys that know they are being chased, then falling for the trap they set since ya know, they knew they were being pursued.

You spend like a whole disc in pursuit of Kuja just for their grand plan of capture to be "lets stand on this quicksand hole and let it swallow us completely". It is not often that someone says "they sure were lucky that sinkhole went directly to the main bad guy's prison fortress jail cell", but i mean yeah i guess they were lucky they didn't drown in fucking SAND

And the only reason they were able to get out of that whole fucking mess was because they got lucky that some dumb npc frog was able to complete the worst minigame in the entire game.

Low-key it's the Tales of Xillia cast. They keep letting Alvin back into the group knowing full well he's just going to keep betraying everyone he allies himself with whenever it's convenient to him, ostensibly because it's safer to keep him where they can see him, but that's the initial justification and it does nothing to actually stop him from betraying everyone, and he only cuts that shit out for good after he has a meltdown ending with him nearly killing Leia because of Milla's death, and also his mom dying in an easily missable sidequest. Fuck me what a mess that party was. Although Rowen was pretty consistently based I guess.

What did the Persona 5 team do that was THAT dumb? They take an L during the Okumura arc but that gave them a chance to grow up some. They figured out that Akechi is the metaverse user from their first group conversation when he drops 'pancakes', which many players miss despite being right there in the dialogue. Keep in mind they're also navigating a world whose rules are unknown to them and better understood by the antagonists, and on top of that their leader is at the mercy of the final boss manipulating them for months.

She's 14 years old while I think Bartz's 18 or 19.

FF13 is a giant case of what actions the party decides to take is contrary to nearly every stated goal except for "don't go ceith." The entire trilogy boils down to the characters doing exactly what the villains want them to do and it somehow not ending horribly.

So I feel like I need to correct you on how this scene plays out

Golbez was already breaking into the Sealed Cave by force, and Giott knew it was only a matter of time until he got through. So he gave Cecil's party the key and asked them to go retrieve the Crystal before Golbez could get to it, because it was literally their only chance at keeping it out of Golbez's hands.

The whole thing was Giott's idea in the first place, and it was a last-ditch effort.
