Im 29 and I was thinking this place Im about to move into is the first time Ive never had a roommate at all.

Not gonna lie Im excited. Saving the money was nice but I just want peace and quiet at home these days.

Age 20 all by myself, then 27 with my sissy, 30+ with various people and family friends.

Im almost 35 and Ive literally never gotten to. This is the cost of living in a blue state. Everyone in the country wants to live here, so demand has driven the cost of living up to where you pretty much need roommates (even if youre married).

ive lived with someone for most of my life. roommates in college, then I bought a house at 21 and rented the spare room to a friend. There were a couple periods in between two different friends renting the room where I lived fully alone but they didnt last long and I cant remember exactly when, and now I live with my wife and kid

Never and recently just turned 27. Rent/home prices here in SoCal is insane.

Never. My family have that old tradition going with Asians/Hispanics. Even when we marry, we still take care of the parents. Our family is like the McCallisters in Home Alone.

Exactly. That whole but who will take care of you when youre old!? argument never made sense to me. If I have kids, I want them to have the best lives they can have. Having a kid as a future caretaker is no better than having a kid and instantly viewing him as a free farmhand.

I've always had a roommate or significant other living with me since then tho.

I've never actually lived alone, went from parents to roommates to current wife, unless you count my time in hotels for work.

I briefly lived away from my parents when I was 18-22 for college. Now I bought and house and moved out for good (hopefully) at 32

I dont believe a parent should expect it by default. A child never owes a parent anything. Thats what you sign up for when you have kids. If youve done your job as a parent correctly then you wont even have to ask.

On the flip side though if you have a family member in need and you can help and choose not to, that makes you a bad person. Parent or child. Family takes care of family.

My primary motivation for making more money is putting my mom in a position she can retire comfortably.

In this economy? I don't know how anything manages to sell at the current prices that aren't single wide trailers or prefabs.

21 when I started grad school. 1 bedroom apartment.

Preferred to live ~3 miles off campus instead of having a roommate after a few too many shenanigans from on campus living during undergrad. And it's been the same since then where after grad school I moved to another 1 bedroom apartment and now a 2 bedroom condo.

If your counting roommates I guess I've never lived alone.

Not until 39. College roommates when 18 to 20, then with my gf/wife until we separated when I was 39.

30, I was in college for most of my 20s so I lived at home. When I graduated and got a well paying job, I saved up for a bit and went out on my own.

Last year, got an apartment to myself at 27

Age 19-20 (I had a "single" as a sophomore), then age 22-30ish.

PROTIP: Maids are totally worth it. Even though you can obviously clean your place yourself, unless you have the personality for it, you won't actually do it often enough. I was foolish for not hiring them when I was younger.
