If so, that would be one of the most audacious fucking takes in history.

Would it be one step up, or one step down, from the old "your mother died in childbirth and it was your fault?"

If that guilt will prevent him from ever having an unsecured firearm, or a firearm period, then let him have that "guilt." If they cannot disconnect their 2 year old self's innocent and non-rational exploration and testing of things from what an adult should know better, then it will help to prevent them from potentially putting their own children in that place. And if they can make the note that they couldn't be responsible for a thing like that based on their age, then good, because that will ALSO help them not repeat the mistake.

Step down of course. At least if we say that down is worse, lower, and closer to hell, and not just "smaller".

Dying during childbirth is something that sadly can happen, with no one being at fault at all.

This? The father is at fault, 100%. Blaming someone else for your mistakes is obviously even lower.

"But gun laws only affect law-abiding citizens." I'm sure this dad viewed himself as a law-abiding citizen. If there were storage requirement laws that were laid out for him at the time of purchase, maybe he still would've been irresponsible, but maybe the mom would still be alive. This suck so much.

If your two year old gets ahold of your gun it is grossly criminal negligence in 99.99999999999999999% of scenarios. Guilt should be legally assumed without extreme mitigating circumstances.

Like I guess if you got greviously wounded by a home intruder, shot them, passed out from your injuries, the toddler crawled over and picked it up off the ground?

According to the news release, the Ilgs told police they kept the handgun inside a nightstand in the primary bedroom. The home featured numerous child safety features, including a baby gate at every doorway, according to police.
While executing a search warrant of the home, police found an additional 12-round magazine from inside the nightstand in the primary bedroom, a loaded 12-gauge shotgun in the closet and a Carbine AirSoft rifle from a computer room, according to the news release.

Multiple loaded guns left unsecured in places two years could access it seems...

If you can afford a firearm, then go out and spend $50 on a lockbox people. Seriously, safe storage is part of gun ownership.

We seriously need to pass a national gun license to own.

I don't care if Ohio has specific storage laws or not, easy access to a loaded firearm is child endangerment, criminal negligence, I'm sure there are plenty of laws to pick from.

The internet is full of videos and photos of "look at little Timmy with this firearm! Look at that, he can already pull the bolt and chamber another round, and he just turned two! So smart! You libz are so fucking triggered, huh?!"

These kids grow up with guns being fun little toys, and their parents get all excited and take pictures and videos and praise them for waiving their little toys around. You keep enough loaded weapons around and teach little Timmy that guns are fun toys, and it's only a matter of time before tragedy strikes.
