It's been 2.5 years since season two, so I've been waiting a long time for this.

Rewatching season two now to get ready.

Great show. Excellent fight scenes.

weird thing is other than having the asian cast, it totally didn't seem up my alley - the historical setting for one thing seemed like a negative

but the tragic history angle has arguably been my favorite element of the show. it's so damn gripping because we know it doesn't have a happy ending. been doing some reading on the beginning of the abolition movement, and even in the northern cities it results in giant race riots that felt all too timely in the 2020s. warrior has that as well but provides some very small escapist revenge fantasy

also love the way the show gets around not having a lot of native chinese speaking actors by just having them speak largely unaccented english - haven't really seen this in many other contexts but it works great for both show-making and for viewing

and yes the fight scenes are pretty sublime!

I never gravitate to shows with historical settings either - the fight choreography was the big draw for me. Any show with really good action usually has terrible acting and storylines, but this has a whole cast of gripping characters and a great way of showing things from lots of different angles.

Super curious what they've done for S3.

Check it out, GMUN. It's very good. It's a little extra-cheesy for the first episode or so, but settles in quickly.

Also Ah Sahm's confidence/cockiness cracks me up every time. He's so good.
