Oh. That's a bit better I suppose, a large part of what made the story interesting for me was the characters and what they go through, so if that remains strong I should be happy.

That and of course the gameplay.

But there are dragons, magic, people with insane powers, eikon Kaiju battles, jet engine boats, gods, and more.. no black people tho. That's crazy.

FF is damned if you do dammed if you dont. Barrett and Sasz are a bit of caricatures (but then again most characters are). Now you have a game whose story deals a lot with slaves and they might have dodged a bullet by not having black characters.

At the end of the day...games, movies..media in general shouldnt be forced to have diversity. Nobodys complaining about Tyler Perrys movies being all black..etc.

FFXIV is 10 years old and it doesn't even have black hairstyles yet. Outside of the one comical 70s afro.

Which, tbh, is hardly his fault. We dont really even teach it well in Europe.

Not sure is worth knocking it down in score that much however.

Oh boy, the discourse over that review is gonna be a mess. We're gonna see some true gamer opinions. The excerpt of that review seems completely correct to me, but their final conclusion seems off and will be used as an excuse to ignore and attack their criticism.

A game so heavily based on real life inflected vibes and style being criticized on an unjustified stylistic choice is valid. Cutting off that many points seemingly due to that is going to be hard to defend, even if it wasn't actually just because of that.
