This is a recast given Darryl Kurylo reprised his role in YLAD.

I feel we're in good hands here. Guy voiced Pucci in JoJo.

Hrmm, watched a video of two of him before doesnt really amazing, but I guess that is just his regular talking voice.

There's no need to listen to the English dub when Takaya Kuroda is perfect

I saw a bit of this guy as Enrico Pucci and I wasn't really going for it. Especially after Wesker as Kira and Diavolo's hour of raspy screaming fun.

As a person who's never played the original PS2 Yakuza games, hearing Kiryu's English voice in LAD's English dub was very jarring lol. Typically I always go English dub in games when there is a choice, no matter what. But I got so used to Kiryu in Japanese, that it sounded wrong. I'd probably go Japanese in Gaiden (maybe). But I'll stick to English in LAD8 since I played LAD in English.

This guy really came a long way from being some MGS YT nerd who everyone hated to a relatively successful voice actor.

I was surprised that MarkPlier was pretty good at voice acting. I think Yongyea has the voice, I just don't know if his acting chops will back it up.

Voicing Kiryu requires no acting.

The Yakuza series has a reverse cowboy bebop thing going on. The Japanese voice actors are absolutely legendary in this series. I prefer English most of the time but the japanese voice acting in this series is too much to sacrifice just to not read subs

I think only the PS2 games had English voice actors. And then it went full Japanese every game since (at least for main games. don't know about spin offs) until Like a Dragon where it was optional.

Only the first game in the series had a English dub at first. By Yakuza 2, they switched over to JP dub.

From there, the next RGG game to have an English dub was Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.

Then Judgment, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and then Lost Judgment.

I wish there was a toggle specifically for Kiryu's voice. I don't really mind (and mostly even prefer English dub, makes viewing the cutscenes more pleasant) the rest of them going English but Kiryu's voice is just so clear in my head that anyone else doing it really throws me for a loop.

I used to like him until he became a fan slut for cyberpunk 2077. He was amongst those who gave cyberpunk pc version I think a perfect score despite all the bugs.

He even made an apology video afterwards.

So after that, I've lost all respect for him and may even have unscribed to his channel.

This is bad news for me because kiryu is a character i really like.

To be fair, depending on your PC, you could play through the whole game without encountering many bugs. I know I only had like 2 minor bugs through my entire first playthrough at launch. But my PC was on the high end. I know others weren't so fortunate.

I didn't like Kurylo, so this can only be an improvement tbh

Likely some edgy tweets made almost an entire decade ago being taken out of context. I dont particularly care much for YongYea given how much of a Sony shill he comes across as, but hes as milquetoast of a gaming YouTuber as they come and thus the thought of him running in the same circles as Sargon of Akkad and Mister Metokur is laughable to say the least.

He sounds pretty good to me, maybe not the perfect fit for Kiryu. but still I cant imagine myself playing these games without using the japanese dub

He was a credible game story YTer but he eventually turned into a very biased drama profiteer (he became a notorious simp for anything Sony, Kojima, and CD Project Red) who milked any gaming drama or controversy for clicks and revenue.

The cyberpunk 2077 disaster is what killed his credibility, as he made it very clear he was in the tank for it (he even preordered it which he always says not to do and had some Cyberpunk merch front and center in his camera view). After he was called out on it, he backpedaled but the damage was done and he started focusing more on voicework gigs.

Probably a case where he knows the ship is sinking on his game drama vids so hes moving on...
