And yeah if Rogan is gonna talk shit to Cuban, he should invite him on the show or he's just a wuss

THat's stupid and pointless because such a thing isn't there to change anyone's minds it's there to reinforce what they already believe then declare themselves the winner. Kinda like how Ben Sharpio only goes up against College kids who don't know shit and that other guy who had the whole "Change my mind" stick.

Cuban is the least reprehensible person of these three, and obviously correct here, but he's only saying this as an opportunity to plug his site.

Mark Cuban is a dumbass too though.

His whole tone here is, "You guys busted your asses off to have the ability to be the mainstream online media and repeat lies, and that's a really good thing but you shouldn't do it here! Rah rah capitalism! Big pharma rules!".

These rich, out of touch losers need to have less power and influence, not more.

A debate with Joe Rogan would be the most useless debate ever.

He'd probably just end up agreeing with Mark Cuban the whole time like he does on his show when he has a left leaning guest, then he'll go right back to spewing misinformation after it's over.

Trying to bully Dr Hotez is ridiculous. You have producers that will prepare you and you get to control the conversation.

Robert Kennedy Jr also has a staff ready to prepare him, and these topics are what he talks about in every speech.

You both do this on a daily basis Dr Hotez works every day to try to find ways to help people.

This really does get to the heart of the matter. The whole circus Musk, Rogan, Kennedy, and the others are running is a way to try and get someone they can paint as a plausible villian (due to him being a prominent advocate of COVID-19 vaccination) but who lacks media training into a stacked debate so they can rhetorically outmanoeuvre him.

This has nothing to do with The Facts and everything do with using Musk's money and Rogan's platform to push their propaganda campaign further into the mainstream. It's pathetic.

Hotez's response should simply be "once you've gone to medschool and published a peer reviewed article on the subject we'll talk. Otherwise the debate will just be me explaining shit to you that you won't understand".

I'm not going to cheer for Mark Cuban, but kudos to him for calling out that Musk and Rogan are part of the mainstream media. You don't get to run one of the biggest websites in the world or have one of the biggest podcasts and claim that you are an outsider. "Saying stuff my political enemies don't like" doesn't make you the little guy.

That's kind of the whole issue isn't it. Debating isn't so much about gaining truth or learning the science. It's a rhetorical game to change opinions.

Have a conversation, write papers, and be transparent in studies. But a debate just seems so limited to me because it's entertainment.

Even stooping to debate a conspiracy theorist while you have actual expertise is granting them an automatic win, even if you dunk on them. Because the picture from the outside is that you are two equal and opposite sides, when you are not. There are only downsides, no upsides. If you "win", it was expected, may be seen as bullying, and won't be acknowledged. If you mess up against multiple media trained people that control the conversation, then it's an embarrassing catastrophe that certain types will use to discredit the entire concept of expertise.

Grifters take advantage of nave but earnest people's belief in the power of debate. They don't care about debate, or the exchange of ideas, they just want to spout BS to a gullible audience that believes that listening to BS makes them enlightened somehow. They manipulate people's childish ideas about how minds are actually changed and info is transmitted.

at the same time ideas like that get to spread because of excuses like these. if everyone thinks 'engaging is a win for them' nobody engages and that's really good for their acoustics.

like, the options really only are avoid it or disavow any idea of high-roading it. if you're going to engage, you need to win, and you need to beat them at any of their own games, too. politics is basically turning debate into an easier game so weaker ideas can compete, too.

Rogan has literally had domestic terrorists on his show, why should his opinion be treated with any kind of legitimacy?
