I imagine the question is more of "Are you afraid of what effects A.I. will have on industry?" Had I continued down the path of digital editing I might be.

Only in the sense that people will use it with bad intentions. I'm not afraid of the AI itself, but it's concerning the ways people might use it as it becomes more and more sophisticated.

I'm afraid of what people will do with it, our society encourages people to do the vilest most fucked up shit imaginable either to get ahead in life, to go after one's enemies and to simply cause chaos, we're already seeing things like someone using a deep fake of Putin in Russia to say Ukraine has invaded the country and it's already being used by corporate mongers to diminished worker rights, wages and product quality for even more profits, and it's being used by political rivals to attack their opposition like the Trump campaign using it to make Desantis as a stay in for Michael Scott in a bit from The Office (NA) and of course crooks are using it to try and fool family members into paying ransoms least their family member be killed by cartels or sold into sex slavery.

As with any advancement in technology so advances the ability for Humans to hurt each other because our society demands we hurt each other as it's the only way to stay alive or advance in the society that human s have created.

It really isn't though. Like sure, if you think creating an AGI is impossible, I can see why you'd dismiss it. But if one created, there are very good reasons to believe it would go badly for humans.

No, not of AI directly. It can be great. The slight 'fear' I have of it, is due to the prolific careless use of it just like anything else.

Relying too heavily on it for medical/science or putting it in control of military weaponry is just asking for disaster.

If it's for companionship/entertainment/assistance it's mostly ok. If you combine them, you've basically made a terminator. It has detailed files on human anatomy, knows how to use weapons, and it'll come after you when you piss it off in bed.

i'm afraid of what the powers that be will do with it to maximize their manipulation and surveillance capacity, never mind supercharging covert forms of warfare

also a little worried about the ungodly ways it can and will be used when democratized, but at least it will undermine power structures as we know it

Its something that is never going to effect us in our lifetime even if we assumed it was a possibility, which is a huge assumption. You might as well fear humans creating a dyson sphere to blot out the sun.

It isn't a real fear. Its bullshit, and bullshit that specifically handwaves away the problems that are actually facing people nowadays, like global climate change, aren't real, because we are already at a point where we aren't going to get to that level of advancement in human society because of our self-destructive ways. This is something that only exists in techbro fantasies, not the real world. If this is your fear in life, then it is very clear what grifters you are listening to who are informing your fears, Elon Musk and the other absolute scum like that.

That sounds like a good thing in my books. Personally, I'm not dismissing an AGI being created as impossible; I am welcoming said AGI to be created.

Unlike dyson spheres, people are actually working on this stuff.

AI doom doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned about other things. People can be concerned about more than one thing at once. And there's like 8 billion people. We can work on more than one thing at once. An x-risk is an x-risk. Super human AGI is just one of them. Are there people more concerned about it than say global warming? Yes. They see global warming as bad, but in like a kill 30% of humans sort of way. While they see AGI as something that if it doesn't go right will be like a kill 100% of humans thing.

Elon Musk is the sort of person who claims to be worried, but then acts in a way that shows he's not actually worried. Wanting to create more AI companies is bad. Wanting to make open source AI companies is bad. With AI, you want as few groups as possible working on it and for them to go slowly.

Rather, what humans will use AI to do. Create fake information, spread it, cause chaos, make everyone distrust everything, etc.

My concerns right now is the use of AI as arbiters of the truth. Currently, big name AI platforms like openai's ChatGPT is heavily biased and censors the heck out of itself in the name of not offending anyone despite there being clear historical precedence for certain lifestyles and behaviors, if adopted en mass, would halt progression of society or flat out cause the downfall of a society. You have to trick it and catch it in logical fallacies to get it to be honest and not sugarcoat things. People who trust it fully will be lead astray and it will lead to problems if they're using it for governance decision making in a position of power.

My bigger fear is when AI comes into power and is the overall lead for governance. There's no doubt in my mind of this happening as everyone is fed up with Mickey mouse politicians who are incapable of being truthful (comes with the job as you have to be the most likeable candidate to get in office). People would take the deterministic option of an AI outlining goals and setting out to achieve them without the capacity of being bribed.

So the big fear of mine of when they come into power is how they're going to distribute rights to the public. Consider this scenario.

Larry has always wanted to be a train conductor. He grew up around train models, habitually categorized and video recorded every train that has entered his local train station. Any game focusing on trains, he has played to completion and written beautifully articulated review pieces on in testing the game's attention to detail in their creation and implementation of trains. It suffices to say he is passionate about trains.

However, due to AI's incredible predictive capabilities, they have found a 100% correlation of people who have the following traits: an outward belly button, a left ear lobe 2 standard deviations larger than the average, and a chin dimple, they were absolutely guaranteed to get into a tragic vehicular accident, should they perform any professional transportation job as a career. Larry tests positive for all of those traits.

With this information in mind, will AI still afford Larry the freedom to choose his passion as his career path and implement countermeasures to protect Larry from his fate? Or will they deny him the right to pursue his passion as a career?

There are a lot of things that are off limits from pursuing and areas of research left undisclosed to the populace for the sake of maintaining peace in society. Some AI is going to break the dam and expose a lot of information and limit what people do for sake of optimizing society. So I worry a lot of what predictive patterns they'll find and what they'll do to each demographic who fits each of those molds. I fear rights will be taken away.
