Its something that is never going to effect us in our lifetime even if we assumed it was a possibility, which is a huge assumption. You might as well fear humans creating a dyson sphere to blot out the sun.

It isn't a real fear. Its bullshit, and bullshit that specifically handwaves away the problems that are actually facing people nowadays, like global climate change, aren't real, because we are already at a point where we aren't going to get to that level of advancement in human society because of our self-destructive ways. This is something that only exists in techbro fantasies, not the real world. If this is your fear in life, then it is very clear what grifters you are listening to who are informing your fears, Elon Musk and the other absolute scum like that.

Unlike dyson spheres, people are actually working on this stuff.

AI doom doesn't mean we shouldn't be concerned about other things. People can be concerned about more than one thing at once. And there's like 8 billion people. We can work on more than one thing at once. An x-risk is an x-risk. Super human AGI is just one of them. Are there people more concerned about it than say global warming? Yes. They see global warming as bad, but in like a kill 30% of humans sort of way. While they see AGI as something that if it doesn't go right will be like a kill 100% of humans thing.

Elon Musk is the sort of person who claims to be worried, but then acts in a way that shows he's not actually worried. Wanting to create more AI companies is bad. Wanting to make open source AI companies is bad. With AI, you want as few groups as possible working on it and for them to go slowly.
