Saw it. It was fine. Structurally very weird.

I have actually seen a lot of pushback over the last day or so from people I usually trust saying it's actually pretty OK.

Honestly I've encountered so many people shit talking it that haven't actually seen the movie, including myself, that it's got me pretty curious.

Welp after seeing literally everything else I'm going to see this one now.

It was... not good?

Other than a few cool moments it is a movie that may as well have not existed.

No stakes, no consequences. Except maybe Clooney? which can't possibly carry forward so I stand by no consequences.

Here's some other timelines.
Here's why they don't matter to the characters you know already.
Such odd choices to convince me there's even less of a reason to be invested in anything that happened.

This movie has gotten so much bad press pre-release. Tbh I don't even think any of that is necessarily sinking the movie, more tight competition and the premise just not seeming very fresh anymore. Like I said, Marvel put together No Way Home for the specific purpose of stealing The Flash's thunder.

For the best. I imagine it will actually do very well on Max with people interested to see it but not willing to go to a theater.

They really just gotta get the Gunn stuff started! Really need to....not release Aquaman 2! Mamoa doesn't even want it to come out, dude wants to be Lobo.

.....But Blue Beetle needs to come out still. Don't abandon my boy.

Aquaman should be fine financially. I can think of only one instance of a sequel to a billion-dollar hit flopping.

Anyway, the DCEU is a tarnished brand by this point.

I thought they deleted Amber from Aquaman 2? Not like she's the main character either and everyone still loves Momoa as far as I know.

The first one was actually pretty good so I had hope for the sequel. Well as much hope as I can extend to a WBDC production... Which is a very low bar sadly.

Maybe give em another 20 years to figure it out.

Her role had started from not a lead anymore, to still pretty significant in the story, and diminished as new copies of the script came out. She was to be in a coma in the movie after giving birth and coming back at the end of the movie, to now having that end portion cut as well.

When questioned by a DCEU rep at trial about the reasons why, and despite Heard's lawyers having tried to get them to claim the timing coincided with the messiness with Depp, they essentially said absolutely not and they had started to phase her out earlier. They said she had no chemistry with Momoa and that you can just tell when people are a star and when they're not, and that they had to do heavy post-production to make her scenes good.

And given she looked like a total psychopath and liar at that trial, it's unlikely we'll see much of her in the final cut now.

I'm also astonished by how when the MCU stumbles people jump all over it, but stuff like Morbius and even this get forgotten relatively quickly. Could be that we all saw it coming though.

People jump all over a failed MCU movie for obvious reasons. The bulk of them have been pretty damn good where the bulk of the DCEU has been bad so another bad movie is to be expected. Aquaman 2 I wouldnt be surprised to see be the biggest drop from an original movie to a sequel or at least one of them. No way in fucking hell the second one makes a billion dollars

I like how the only sequel to a billion-dollar hit to flop financially starred Johnny Depp. And now, Amber Heard in Aquaman. Also coming up this year, Johnny Depp's biggest fan Brie Larson in The Marvels.

China is exactly why Aquaman will probably see a huge drop. The market is no longer there in the same way that it was due to a bigger COVID hit, poor exchange rates and a turn away from Hollywood films. Gonna be a fascinating box office run to watch though.

Domestically, it's going to make <$150 million. Not even just The Flash but the latest Transformers and Fast X "bombed" as well. Shit, the latest Shazam too...

I guess worldwide Fast X has made a decent >$500 million but the rest have to be considered failures.

With everything going up in price less people might be going to see movies. Alternatively people know they come to stream fairly quickly now too and might just feel like waiting since its cheaper that way too

Yeah, I think the DCEU brand is just tarnished. What a difference from the time when Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad were held up as examples of movies audiences liked more than critics. Apparently the original Suicide Squad sold better on DVD than Doctor Strange did too, despite much worse critical reception. Can only think that was due to hype.

Alternately, I think maybe for movies like The Flash and Quantumania that audiences feel incredibly let down based on pre-release advertising and hype. Can't imagine audiences would have been keen on Morbius after finding out they got duped in terms of The Vulture, since Keaton reprising his role was already in the trailers, for instance (also boy, Keaton should sue Sony and WB for false advertising at this rate). The Flash kind of seems to be like the perfect storm in this regard, taking the fall for past comic book movie letdowns and its own franchise alike. The only thing that astonishes me more is why this isn't getting more attention, although again we probably all saw it coming a mile away. Also I'm admittedly mostly jarred because a lot of the YouTube movie channels I follow praised it quite a bit, even if some of them admitted it was overhyped. I have never seen this kind of dissonance before and can only conclude that those channels are just really into the history of DC Comics on film, which The Flash seems to celebrate. Turns out there really aren't a lot of people into nostalgia for superhero movies that came out decades ago though. At least No Way Home only included continuities that started no earlier than 2002, as opposed to Michael Keaton's Batman not having been seen in more than 30 years! And that's to say nothing of certain cameos.

I've also seen some suggest that Marvel fast-tracked No Way Home specifically to steal the thunder of Keaton's return as Batman, but doing some research the dates in question don't seem to add up. Either way though, ick. Apparently a movie that came out LAST MONTH topped the domestic box office last weekend.
