my mom has been unemployed and has been struggling to find a job, so she decided to check out doordash. i went with her and we tried using it for the first time.

• a lot of orders were like $3.50 or less. we would always reject those.
• orders that were 10+ miles away were usually not worth it
• the app is pretty clunky. the map kept bringing us in circles, the phone screen would idle with the app being open, sometimes a new order would show up which would prevent us from seeing the existing order.
• doesn't seem like there's a lot of money in this. we spent most of our time waiting for orders to come in, and there was usually like 10-20 minutes of wait time before a good order came in.
• one youtuber i watch used doordash and made $150 after driving 104 miles and 8 hours of work. that seems like a lot of ware and tear on your car for $150. worth it if it wasn't your own car, but not worth it otherwise.
• my mom is still pretty new to the service, so there were things I think she could have done that she didn't do. she rejected some orders she could have taken, she rejected all the deliveries within deliveries, and probably other things i'm not aware of.

anyone here deliver with doordash or a different app?

Might be worth it if you lived in a dense urban area and biked around.
Otherwise fuck no.
She should try uber instead.

Money is money and the flexibility is amazing. Aside from that it sucks. Only thing legit good about the jobs is the tips if you get lucky.

she lives just outside of a downtown area. lots of fast food places all lined up on one road. i'm not sure how active the area is though.

she will never do regular uber. she doesn't like dealing with people, and is afraid for her safety. she may try other food delivery services but not regular lyft or uber. but if she becomes super desperate though, this might change.

sadly for her, she's gonna have to keep trying to make doordash work because she is having no luck finding a job. she has 2 interviews last week and got rejected by both.

Don't forget that your current car insurance probably doesn't cover you when you are using your car for business purposes, such as DoorDash/Uber/etc.

Could work as a side hustle, but the pay is pretty low for it to be a main job. I don't know if the apps still allow it, but I know what people used to do was try and accept multiple orders at the same time, in the same area.

No. Doing it is likely a violation of your car insurance policy and the compensation is garbage. It's a scam to exploit poor people.
