If DToast or Fandom in general thought having a dedicated board for political discussion was too divisive, then it should be enforced equally. Shouldnt the right wing political community boards be closed as well? And why hasnt the Religion board been closed? That subject matter is even more divisive than Politics is.

This website is practically value-less. Fandom did not acquire GameFAQs. Fandom acquired a package of websites that happened to include GameFAQs. Based on web traffic, this site is only worth like $60-100,000. I made a topic considering cars that cost more than this site. Sadly, that figure is likely accurate as this site's revenues are based solely on advertising.

The writing is on the wall. Current Events and other popular social boards are next. I expect all boards to be closed by the end of the year. That includes game boards.

I remember when that happened to the Amazon message boards... really sucked because some of the communities there were pretty cool. Anne Rice even posted on there and I got to chat with her a couple of times.

If forums are closed, idk where I'd go next.

Place your bets how long until every forum is closed for the fear of politics.

My guess is they don't want any replacement board for the Politics board specifically

It is literally called Current Events chap.

If there is no politics board it's the obvious location for political topics.

Yeah, it's been quite a while... I checked goodreads (where most folks fled to when they got shut down) and it was Oct 2017 when they were canned. Think they were around at least ten years before that.

I believe the site is so intertwined with GameSpot that you couldn't just sell off these boards.

CE to follow in the coming months, it seems. Even if it isn't a "politics" board, per se, close all the others and the posters will come here and overrun this board with politics topics until they are forced to close it.

For what is worth being on the forums here is a big part of my daily habits. I have been doing so over 20 years. Less posts and fewer boards but I am reading something here on and off all day.

The forums going away would be a blow. I don't do much else online community wise. I wouldn't go anywhere else because it would not be the same. I don't mean same as in format. I don't mind changes here in format or options but history. I have no connection to elsewhere and I don't feel like learning a new community from from scratch.

i think everything goes except for the boards for discussing the most popular series. they will create new boards to order to allow discussion of any hot new games that come out.

all such discussions will be intensely monitored and strictly moderated

yes. Fandom doesn't care about message boards, it's not their business model. I have brought up before how the fact that they're trying to use a TOS designed for wikis for a message board site is well, problematic, in the sense that it shows their mentality ("we don't want to have to do with boards").

Message boards are not part of their roadmap, no matter that we're told
