I don't think he was taking orders. I think he was misled into thinking it was toxic. They explicitly laid out their strategy: to target him specifically since he was still learning about GameFAQs.

That explanation doesn't work. So are political boards fine if they don't use abusive language? And is it fine for other boards to use abusive language as long as they're non-political?

There is not piece of art, including video games, that isn't inherently political to some degree. And many games are explicitly political.

Im sure they gave some directive about political discussions but he decided to not give warnings, to not give clarifications on whats grounds for closure.

Regarding the whole subreddit communications thing whatever:

You really think the admins are not savvy enough to see those subreddit threads on a public subreddit you can view without an account? They certainly are attempting to troll the site at every whim and avenue but do you really think they would post their plans for doing so that blatantly out in the open? Especially when it's known that most of those users are in a discord server that you're probably not in to read. Y'all don't exactly have the accurate reading on that subreddit that you think you do and that's exactly what they want.

Additionally those communications go to DToast while the decision was made by Fandom corporate. Even if they did send something, it's not communication that corporate would've ever seen. That subreddit had nothing to do with the decision that was made.

That's not what happened. Realpolitik was created before the Politics board was closed, not after.

Some 261 history for those not in the know. Realpolitik was created by the left leaning members to get away from the trolls on 261. It lasted for awhile but kinda died out. I want to say 6-8 years ago. It was invite only so the trolls were kept to a min. I was a lurker then so I didn't think much of it

The board had politics, wasnt explicitly only about politics, just like this board. Shit the Local and World News board is still up.

What is more likely, Fandom is simply closing political focused boards which puts it in line with all their other properties. (Keep in mind that GameSpot also had it's politics boards closed too)

Half a dozen frequent fliers to the suspension queue on a subreddit dedicated to bitching about their GameFAQs moderations managed to befriend the new admin and convince him to convince Fandom to shut down an active board.

A little of both, honestly. Squeaky wheels, and all that.

Sure, there's policy in place for fandom's wikis, but I don't buy that it covers message board and forums in the same way. But these people in Toast's ear giving him an excuse to nod along and shutter anything that resembles politics could be just what Toast wants or needs to justify his behavior with extreme prejudice.

He's so young and he's been put in charge of a whole hosts of communities in one flip of the switch. The idea that he's like a new prince with poison advisors pulling his strings because they're the first ones who got to him...?

I won't say they're solely responsible for Toast's behavior, but I think a small percentage of the blame can be laid at their feet. Especially the realpolitik board.

I've seen it happen on other forums. Some troll gains the trust of a moderator who does the bidding of that mod, trusting the user(troll) to have done the proper leg work.

It's not about having nowhere else to go. It's not even just about closing the boards. It's the way that this site has gone to make parts of it unaccessible. The boards aren't just closed they've been walled over so that entire histories of the site are forbidden from view from everyone.

If yoy can't see why people are upset about it that reflects far more negatively on you than it does for those that are complaining in the first place.

No I don't think its some Russian shit. I also don't think Fandom gives much of a shit other then have a policy on no politics boards and Toast or who ever is on charge is being selective on what boards will be removed. Hence why theb2 conservative boards are still operating despite being well known.

Does the " Twitch and Ticktock" group go to ANY message board? Zoomers are predominantly progressive which is a far cry from the right wing gaming boards filled with conservative boomers still clinging on to the past and hate the youth. They demonstrably did post their plans, less than two weeks before 261 was closed. And DToast could theoretically have seen the threads, but what would have prompted him to check them?

Additionally those communications go to DToast while the decision was made by Fandom corporate. Even if they did send something, it's not communication that corporate would've ever seen. That subreddit had nothing to do with the decision that was made.

If the decision was Fandom's, and not DToast's, then their actual policy isn't against a political focus by itself, but "specifically ones that violate our [Fandom's] terms of use by promoting abusive language."
