I'm rewatching the series with my 15 year old which has let me relive that 'first time' feeling, and oh man, it still hits so damn hard. we just watched the nuke episode and she absolutely melted, as one should.

it's easy to think cynically about the series given how the writing fell off pretty hard in later seasons, but man, rewatching it has made me realize how much I miss that show.

So I have started watching 24 on and off with the wife and we got to the end of season 2 which was an amazing season. But I get the sneaky suspicion that it has already reached its peak and will start getting a bit stale from now on. Is it still worth watching past this point, or does it get old very quickly?

there's no time

i think i'm a lot more critical as a viewer than i was when 24 was on the air (probably of much of the stuff you'd find in 24, too) and i haven't had too much reason to revisit it, but it's still sentimentally arguably my favorite show.

in the end i think only 6 was truly terrible, but kinda like dexter, the badness of it kinda seeps into the later stuff when it's good

also, i assume you mean the s2 nuke episode, and not s6?

You could say the general formula is what it is but the beats they take to get there are all over the place.

Also S2 is very front-loaded because there was apparently fear they might get cancelled halfway through. So it might start feeling like seasons lull in the middle more in comparison but they (mostly) are better in the back half than S2 is.

at this point I'd say that leaving your last memory on season 8 is probably a better idea. season 9 is probably an okay watch but it isn't anything amazing and the ending isn't what you want.

yeah 2x15. I wouldn't dare call 6x4 the nuke episode. there can be only one.

I was rereading an old topic from after season 6 last night where I ranked moments and you and I went back and forth for like 2 months. good times

It's so weird because Live Another Day (S9) feels like they just assumed they'd get more seasons and I don't know if there was any reason to think that.

My parents started watching it like halfway through Season 4 and I remember I'd watch a bit of it here and there. Then I missed the first 2-3 episodes of Season 5 but eventually started devoting my full attention to it. Watched every bit of 24 after that. Except for that weird 24 spin-off.

I always meant to go back and watch Seasons 1-3 and 4 in its entirety. Just never got around to it.

I sometimes forget how good/riveting this show is.

By any chance, does anyone have an old old old link? There was a '24 Best Moments of 24' or funniest or greatest and it came out after the third or fourth season. The logo/page was Calvin & Hobbes, and moments were presented in silly ways. I remember 'George Mason, American Hero' was a big thing; 'Crutches meet Tony, Tony meet Crutches;' and I think a whole post dedicated to Almeida's Cubs coffee mug?

Anyone else remember that?

ok funny thing right now - I watched and loved 24 but for some reason I am drawing a complete blank on who/what the "big bad" of season 4 was, I literally remember every other season but that one, what the hell...

Anyways, I also agree seasons 1 through 5 were peak, even if I can't entirely remember season 4!

Season 3 was always a personal favourite of mine too in that it was a little different + was a big fan of Stephen Saunders but I do think 5 was the best and it feels like that's the general consensus? That's the season it won the Emmy for too iirc

There is a good reason for that. Unlike every other season there isn't really a big mastermind reveal per se. So it's pretty much it's just the starting villain (played by the same guy who was The Mummy) with some speedbumps along the way because of the embassy.

Season 5 was amazing but at least for me a big part of the appeal was the expectations it set. Which season 6 did not remotely live up to. So I think I'd have to put the first two seasons before it.

hey there's one thing I remember about season 4, CTU is going to torture a guy for info on Marwan, so Marwan calls Amnesty International to send a lawyer over so he doesn't get tortured, and then they release the guy and Jack tortures him in a car in the parking lot, lol. Good times, good times.

Gameplay-wise? Ha, no.

Story-wise? It won a BAFTA!

It's really fun and fills in a lot between S2 and S3 and has basically all the actual actors voicing. So it really is just another season. Plus more Mandy, which is always good.
