It's good to try to subvert any support for the NRA if you have the means, but getting arms and training into the hands of people most vulnerable to political violence and hate crimes is top priority. You're not getting out of your money ending up in the hands of those who support right wing groups anyway, that's just an inherent feature of capitalism.

there are no sensible gun control laws. what you think is "sensible" isnt what someone else thinks and that sensibility is always subject to change. it always has and always does, especially in context to guns. even the notion that sensible is "not having a crazy person to have one" means the only way to do so is to keep them out of everyone elses hands, especialy when "crazy" can also mean supporting things you dont agree with.

Your logic is perpetuating or at the very least implying what the majority of the left hates which is low hanging fruit for the right to latch on to.

Even the left does not mostly want to ban all guns. So the idea of getting the left and the right to ban them isn't going to happen. The right wing narrative on Fox and Twitter that most of the left wants to ban all guns or wants to go door to door to take your guns is simply not true.

So yes, a more realistic approach is to come up with laws that make it more difficult for deranged lunatics to shoot up a place.

of course it's not an answer in and of itself. the political baseline in the US is basically already fascist. the right is significantly larger and better organized than the left. a few groups arming themselves isn't going to change that.

that being said, it's still a necessary step at a certain point. if you are in favour of a large-scale working-class revolution uprooting society and implementing a new economic system, you must, on some level, be in favour of the working class arming themselves.

I'm also glad that there's a growing alternative to the insane gun-obsessed culture of the US. a significant part of the problem with that culture (not the most significant, mind you; but still significant) is the reckless abandon with which these deadly weapons, literally designed to kill people, are treated. left-wing gun clubs make it significantly easier to get the necessary training and experience without participating in that culture.

On the subject of gun control, you don't need to ban guns to massively reduce gun violence, although it certainly can be effective. Japan has very strict gun control (not full on bans) and literally has some years with zero gun deaths despite extremely high urban population density. The UK has less strict gun control and has a mass shooting roughly every decade. The USA has had several in the last couple of days alone.

But those are impractical levels of gun control for a country that fetishises guns. Let's instead look to Australia, who passed really light gun control measures in 1996 and who has only had 1 mass shooting (and two instances of familicide by firearm) since then as well as dropping firearms related deaths by roughly two thirds. You can still own guns and things like hunting, sport shooting and pest control are still legitimate reasons to own guns. That sort of gun control is what should be strived for in America and is also what most gun control advocates are proposing.

Honourable mention to Switzerland, which has very high gun ownership along with those people actually being trained in their use, yet does not see the insane violence that America does.

They're necessary. The other option is be totally helpless against the fascists. Do some think the power of love or friendship is going to save anybody or anything else that's straight out of a children's film?
