I know 'Am I the only one...' posts tend to be not taken literally. But this is something I do feel like I'm almost the only one with the sentiments of.

Literally everyone around me raves about touring the world and travelling and visiting abroad all the time. But for me I see it as a waste of time, energy and money. You have to go pack up, create an itinerary, budget your expenses, settle your passport then spend most of your time hours travelling from place to place... It all just seems troublesome

Dont get me wrong. I still do find the adventure of travelling exciting but I find that I can already get that same experience by watching travelling vlogs on Youtube. Like what's the point in going there yourself when you can just watch it directly from others? Is this weird? I dont know.

I'm neutral towards it. If I'm driving I hate it cause I hate navigating unfamiliar areas.

I used to have this mindset too until my best friend had me flew out for his wedding. Just a few days in somewhere new away from the ordinary go to work and then go home routine was so refreshing.

Also those travel vlogs don't capture everything else the camera can not record. Thats like saying why play video games when someone else can do it for me.

If it's not on my dime I'm cool with it. I don't mind travel but I'm not willing to pay the expenses for traveling just to travel

As for TC's position, I respectfully disagree.

I like traveling, but it is the definition of stressful being far away from home if something happens, plus its hard to find a dog sitter who wont charge an arm and a leg.

Well, but that's the funny thing though. Watching video game streams IS popular. That's why Twitch exists. A lot of people actually would rather watch someone else play than play themselves

I enjoy it when its just my wife and kid and were away from civilization. Just got back from a beach rental that was fucking awesome.

I hate traveling with other people and being on their itinerary. Fucking torture.

I love travelling. No video can come close to the experience of seeing for yourself, meeting people, eating their food in their restaurants etc. Not to mention just getting out of your comfy domestic rut and doing something invigorating.

But it can be expensive and requires effort. If you don't think it is worth it for you, then that's fine too.

To travel is to live. Seeing new places, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures, foods, styles of living... it's the best. Nothing else compares.

You don't even need to leave the house to go on a trip if you keep your stash fat

I can see the appeal if they can afford it, but just not worth it to me. And it's annoying when people make it their personality. Hearing about how you physically existed somewhere a few days isn't interesting.

I find being out and about fairly boring and tedious, so it's definitely not for me. If someone's into it, it makes sense. What I don't get are the people who take $5k+ vacations to stay within the confines of a resort in another country to get the same exact experience you could get elsewhere for much cheaper.

I don't enjoy traveling too, but I can see why it appeals to a lot of people.

I do like seeing new and interesting places. We traveled a lot growing up and I really enjoyed that.

Unfortunately now that I'm grown and have a family of my own, while I theoretically would still like to travel, there are way more negatives than positives now.
Leading up to the trip I get stressed out with all the planning and logistics.
I spend the entire trip stressing about money, thinking about how much everything is costing and if there is something more important I could be spending my money on.
I also spend the whole trip worrying about getting behind on work.

It doesn't help that with 3 kids, at any given time during the trip at least someone is probably miserable.

This sounds like a very boring mindset.

And it's literally impossible to get the same experience watching someone explore a new location as opposed to doing it yourself.

I mean, youre entitled to think the juice isnt worth the squeeze. But theres obviously a giant difference between watching something on a video and actually experiencing it. Thats like saying what is the point of having sex when you can just watch porn and get the same experience.

The answer is its not the same experience

Whats the point of going anywhere? Im just gonna wind up back at home eventually.

I couldnt care less. I'm OK just eating the same foods I like for the rest of my life

ironically no. For example I'd rather play a video game than watch someone stream it. I'd rather do a sport rather than watch someone do it.

Actually I dont even like travel vlogs. I just watch them so people dont think I'm some hermit who doesnt know about the outside world. People who travel a lot tend to give a better impression on others so if I can pretend to be that kind of person too... that I've been to all these overseas destinations... it's kinda the same thing lmao.

I feel like most of the world is becoming more and more the same though. Especially if you go to the major cities around the world, almost all of them are becoming more and more homogeneous with the same building architecture, shopping malls, beaches and whatnot... Of course you can go off the beaten track to find more soulful destinations but the trouble and expenses aint worth it to me. Food-wise, sure it can be different but I'm no foodie and I pretty much hated 90% of the new food I tasted so whatever.

If you do more than scratch the surface of the place, you'll see the differences. Of course if you just go to the big shopping streets and tourist spots all you'll see is the same. If you make an effort though, there's a world of difference
