Using a debit card is the sucker's choice. You get no rewards or cash back. Bank won't protect you as much as your credit card issuer.

Credit card, paid off in full at the end of every month. Gotta collect those points, mang. My checking account only exists to collect my paychecks, and my debit card is only used for the rare occasions where I need to withdraw cash.

If you're not building credit, you're just hurting yourself later in life.

You need a credit card and you should be spending whatever you use your debit card for unless it's a mortgage payment or something that requires your bank account directly.

I'm really stunned that this board doesn't understand that a credit card will give you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in free value just from a sign up bonus that you can hit with your normal spending. Some will even pay for themselves in terms of annual fees and credits.

100% credit cards.

Most stuff goes on my Sapphire Reserve.
Amazon stuff goes on my Prime card.
Hiltons go on the Hilton Amex.
I have a few subscriptions that get paid through my old Amex Blue that I've had since 2007 just to keep the account active.
Corporate stuff goes on the corporate card obviously.
And I sometimes flip my Apple card on the bar at happy hours just to hear it go *TING* but it's a MasterCard through Goldman Sachs and I'm not really fond of either of those brands.

I have $132 in cash in my wallet that's been there for literal years at this point.

Learn some discipline or read a Dave Ramsey book. There's no scam. If you stick to your budget and spend no more than you do with a debit card, there's no problem at all. No interest accrued or debt trap.

I don't know what I'd need credit for because it hasn't come up for me yet and with the way I live, I don't see how it could...

Also I really get how credit cards work and I'm worried I'd get stuck with something that's not great... I rather just buy stuff that I have the money for or if it's too much at the time, just wait a bit until I have the money for it...

Even Bilt lets you pay for rent now without a penalty. And I'm sure there are ways to pay your mortgage with a credit card, but that's paying debt with debt. I've seen people do crazy shit with Plaid.

Really can't go wrong with a Chase Freedom Unlimited or Discover. There's also plenty of card match sites that can fit your needs and even show you what your pre-approved for.

Even then, don't spend beyond your means. Your bank won't give you much of a lifeline if you're in a true emergency and need extra money. A credit card can do that for you.

Credit card and I am constantly paying it off so I never carry a balance. I receive a couple hundred dollars back a year thanks to it.

Credit cards don't have to be a scam and can be wonderful. They're very easy to use poorly though. I know a lot of young people who use it for short term, expensive loans.

Sticking with cash means you'll never be credited for your trip to Florida or fly to Japan for only 70k points and barely even $20 out of your pocket. Never be able to reimburse yourself for purchases or transfer that free cash to your bank account.

You're missing out on entire aspect of your life that will simply reward you.

Credit card is easier, really. No need to put in a PIN code every time you use it. And if your card gets skimmed, they're taking the bank's money and not yours.
