Interesting, I have not seen any announcement from Lyft yet. Maybe they are holding their cards a little closer to the chest.

Is all this effort to change Uber really worth it over just telling its drivers to get another job?

If they refuse then that's entirely on them and their decision as grown adults. Virtue fighters trying to champion for them at that point is just ridiculous.
No. People deserve to be paid a wage that they can fucking live on.

That's your takeaway, huh?

Uber is just a middleman, or pimp at worst. If anything, it'll restructure itself to be even more a middleman.
I wonder if AI could circumvent all that.
There needs to be a platform for people that need rides and drivers are able to connect with one another, maybe AI could do all that poll for drivers and riders, then the ends of the AI negotiate the transaction.

Yea and those kids liked working in the factory. Made them feel proud to be able to help their starving family.

To do things like lawn work and babysitting and other small jobs like that? Yes, to me, hiring an adult usually does cost too much (at least from a "worth" standpoint). I can do all of that for free for myself. The few bucks for the kid is to save time... But spending more for an adult to do that just isn't worth it. It'd be like paying someone to bring my groceries to the car from the store, when I can just do it for free myself.

If it wasn't for adults hiring kids to do that type of stuff, I would have never had any money as a kid to buy games and stuff, outside of money from Christmas and birthday gifts.
Ok. I still dont have sympathy for the companies that are unprofitable when told to pay livable wages

Flip it so the driver pays a fixed "finders fee" to the matchmaking service.

  1. Someone opens the app and wants a ride, drivers bid on it.
  2. Winning bid gets the gig
  3. Driver pays the app that fee, and pockets the rest - maybe a transaction fee of a few percent, if the app also handles the payments from rider to driver.
Now, where's my goddamn venture capital?

Again, I wont speak for every driver.

But for me, the replacing parts on your vehicle left and right is not a thing. My biggest expense with my current car over the last two years was replacing the tires. And I have insurance on all four of them. So when I inevitably get a flat from a nail or something similar, it only costs me $40 to replace a $279 tire.

Just got this email from Uber as I am a driver with them. By premium products I assume that means Uber Black will be the only available option, and few drivers can afford the vehicles required to meet the qualification.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/2/3/1/AADYzzAAEgoX.jpg

lmao that's some grade A blackmail. fuck them.

fun fact: Uber used to be only "uber black", and its prices were those of base uber. Once they got rid of the taxicab competition they introduced uber X (for the price of what used to be uber, now uber black), uber xl (more expensive than uber, now uber black) and uber black (which is now MORE expensive, and it used to be cadillacs and stuff, now it's beaten up chevy tahoes)

fuck them

it sounds great on principle, until you discover uber forces them to take a # of jobs per day, at specific times, and forces them to have a rate over 3.5 out of 5 if they want to continue driving for the platform. If a driver decides to be a d**** and give you a 0, say bye bye

So Uber is admitting that their business model is untenable if they pay drivers a fair amount and give them some basic employment protection?

Uber doesnt force anyone to take any specific number of jobs. Its a completely voluntary job. You work when you want to, and dont when you dont.

The rating system sucks though and that needs reforming. They also need to be much more transparent on rider complaints and that was the really good part of this bill.
