Flip it so the driver pays a fixed "finders fee" to the matchmaking service.

  1. Someone opens the app and wants a ride, drivers bid on it.
  2. Winning bid gets the gig
  3. Driver pays the app that fee, and pockets the rest - maybe a transaction fee of a few percent, if the app also handles the payments from rider to driver.
