Great, now they'll spread across GameFAQs like a cancer.

Kinda curious what happened for the Politics board to be shut down.

I used to post there, then I kinda just started lurking. It seemed like run of the mill "new account every 2 days" trolling from either right leaning posters, left but argues the rights position 99% of the time, or "centrist" that never actually is in the middle(leans right), some left leaning trolls, then just run of the mill anti-right liberalism.

But what could have caused this specifically?

It was kind of an echo chamber and dumpster fire, but...isn't CE still up?

Place was a clown show. I got called an alt right troll and got moderated for saying Kavanaugh getting confirmed would be a disaster. Yes. Apparently that was too conservative a position to take for that board.

The one thing I didn't like about the place is, it is left leaning, of course, but sometimes the discussion was kinda braindead. And sometimes like PC says, you'd get called names because of stupid shit.

I won't argue it was a good forum, but to see it actually get taken down? Now those "new account every 2 days" trolls who went there will need somewhere to go, so they'll infest places like here and CE more than they already do. At least 261 contained some of that shit, but now it'll be more widespread.

Glad it's just not me then.
Level 35 not being high enough to *ahem* contribute to political discourse had me worried for a second.

Fandom is proud to be a place of belonging for all fans. We take online trust & safety very seriously across all our brands and as of Tuesday, May 16, we closed all political discussion boards on GameFAQs, specifically ones that violate our terms of use by promoting abusive language.

I got that a lot which was weird since none of my posts really covered any of the examples of abusive language.
It just felt like a catch-all to avoid moderating, which, fair enough admittedly. Not like they get paid.

Oh well. There's always the video game community topics.

Hopefully political discussion will actually be relaxed and calm in the future on gamefaqs, wherever ever it might occur.

Everyone on that board was an absolute psycho, with most topics be posted by the same users over and over again, with Humble_Novice being a prime example. I once saw 10 topics on the front page of 261, and 7 on the 2nd page. He was a woke leftist, and most of his topics-along with the other spam users- would literally involve the woke left agenda everytime. I've also seen him advocate for violence against the government and against Trump supporters.

How he never got banned, especially for just posting so many topics on a given day, is beyond me.

I completely get and support banning the conservative equivalent of 261 due to MAGA extremism, but 261 when unchecked for too long.

They could reopen, but they have to make it to where you can only post one topic per day, and your account has to be 2-3 years old to do so.

I kinda wonder if some of these people may end up trying to form a secret politics board on some obscure game nobody cares about(like how there was a semi popular invader zim board on some old game on the genesis or 3dos board back in the day). It might be a good idea to increase policing on say random 3do or zx spectrum sports game forum incase one of those grows a cancerous politics board because these trolls will just spread out all over the site.

There is a board that branched off several years ago named realpolitik, but it kinda went dead after a couple months, but the place is still active. edit: it was invite only

board was a cesspool of right wingers that flooded the board after the trump board got killed, now they just need to ban them and we'll be good

"You're being too political" largely means "I'm happy with the political status quo, stop trying to make me think about whether or not that's okay." That's quite inescapably a political statement, hiding behind a disingenuous excuse to avoid acknowledging how lazy it is.

I was a regular visitor there and the amount of abusive language seemed to be the same as anywhere else online.

This makes me so happy tbh. That place is God awful. I don't know how anyone could take that place seriously in terms of actual political discussion. You literally are not allowed to have a different opinion on that board.

Over the years the angry, toxic rants and advocacy/musings of violence ("when is somebody going to shoot up a Republican event") have been steadily increasing. If the board wasn't quarantined I could pull recent examples, but let's say that I didn't just make up that last example from nowhere.

the Pol board was terrible, but I'm worried about Fandom's management skills. I've seen what they've done to their wikis.

One "side" gets to discuss their "side", while trying to report and moderate any dissenting viewpoint into oblivion. And when GameFAQs has such a low bar for "trolling" (provoking other users to respond negatively), then literally any thread on 261 was potentially trolling, because an invitation to discussing politics is an invitation to dissent, and dissent is seen as a negative.

261 was the cringiest board on any forum I've ever seen!! It was a complete clown show. People would get gang modded out of nowhere for having friendly political disagreements. Only certain posters who had pocket mods were allowed to post freely. These posters would constantly flex and brag about getting people modded.

It was the craziest most toxic board ever.

Didn't huge swaths of 261 users do the same thing when the MAGA board (rightly) closed? These are discussion boards, but there isn't actually a way to have political discussions here without it devolving into a toxic shit show, so I can't blame the moderators for not wanting to deal with any political boards anymore.

While it would be nice to have a fair and free political board, where everyone can speak their minds, that wasn't what 261 was. Never saw the point to having a politics board here in the first place. This website in general has a shit ton of weird ass specialized boards that are kinda unnecessary.
