I loved Terraria, looking for games to play with friends. In your opinion, with development controversy aside, would you say go for it, or recommend just modding terraria?

I've tried to start Starbound like 7 times over the last decade but everytime I just don't really know what to do or where to go, like there's no clear progression found in other Survival games. Maybe that's just me or i wasn't paying enough attention.

Game has fuckload of mods though, I've seen some really, uhh creative ones too.

Yeah I've never been able to get into Starbound. I just played through the Calamity Mod for Terraria and loved it. Adds tons of new bosses and thousands of new weapons and items and rebalances ore progression and adds new tiers of ores after certain bosses are defeated. And the music is lit.

Starbound was ahead of Terraria for a hot minute, but then the Terraria devs kept adding new content for like 10 more years.

it's very ok, but there's only like 4~6 progression items so it really all comes down to personal exploration

Calamity mod for Terraria is basically just bigger and better Terrarria, with all roles feeling viable and eventually OP against OP bosses, would absolutely recommend. (also use at minimum Magic Storage, Recipe Browser, and the Calamity music mod (there was some technical reason to split them up))

Every time I've tried to play Starbound, it just feels empty in comparison to base Terrarria. Maybe worth a weekend on sale? Definitely wait for some sale.

I think the consensus is that Starbound has the better exploration aspect, but I'm not sure if that still holds given all the new updates Terraria has had.

There are some big mods for Starbound as well but I don't think they solved the combat issue with the game, which is pretty much lacking.

I'm not sure if Starbound has received any big updates, last I played this game was back in 2018 apparently

Devs basically quit development on Starbound after finishing off the kickstarter goals. Kind of sad.

It's impressive how much the Terraria devs were willing to add
