Not a dedicated "6 Month Emergency Fund" but I have enough in savings that if both my wife and my salary were to disappear for 6 months, that I could keep paying my bills.

I have $45,000 in savings, plus $6000 in checking, so more like 1-2 year emergency fund. Mainly because I'm trying to get the fuck out of teaching.

yes, plus extra for emergency home repair(s).

i could survive a couple of years on my savings if i lost my job and maintained current expenses. probably more than 3 years

Yes. Ive reached the point where if I lost my job, I could find whatever lesser paying gig and not have a reduction in my quality of life. Thats a pretty good feeling.

Got about 3 after student loans are factored in. Without them, got about a year.

I probably have a two year emergency fund if I'm careful.

I have enough saved up right now that I could live for about a year and a half, maybe two years. But part of that is saving up to buy a step van and do a conversion so its not all designated emergency fund and I also recognize that if housing was not included with my job for most of the last year and a half I would not have been able to save up nearly as much.

I could get a 6 month sickness paid leave at any time.

I barely have a six day emergency fund.

2 years only but technically I could survive on as low as 100 a week week so if I pushed my savings to the limit then its more like 10 year fund

Most of the people saying no are either not from America, or are part of the massive portion of the American population that lives paycheck to paycheck, congratulations on not being one of them I guess; but this is a pretty stupid question

I have about a year in savings, then if I needed, I could pull another 1.5 years from my 401k (after the tax penalties) if really needed

We haven't figured it or specifically set it aside but we'd be fine for much longer than 6 months if something popped up.

Nope. I keep enough money in the bank that, if I lost my job today, I could pay rent and a tightened month's worth of expenses. I went through an extreme financial catastrophe about a year and a half ago, so I'm doing well all things considered. Scares the hell out of me though.

For context, he posted this topic after shaming me for being broke and struggling severely and shamed me for not having an emergency fund despite having explained how my wife has been out of work for a year. He then dismissed my mental health concerns and told me to go work fast food, despite having had increasing issues with severe panic attacks.

I've been out of work for years after a suicide attempt. I spend most of my spare time doing unpaid charity work while struggling to get a job because of the gap in my work history.

But yeah I just need to cut back on the avocados.

You need to see a therapist and get in contact with work services. The only charity work you should be doing is charity for yourself before even thinking of helping others.

No, but I am about 3 months away from finally being debt free. That means an additional $500 in the bank every month. So building up a reserve wont be too difficult.

The therapist recommended and referred me to the charity work. But thanks for your advice! I'm sure it's just as good.

It's pretty inexpensive to be me. I've got about a year's savings if I'm also taking care of my wife. About 3 years if it's just me. If she stays at her current salary, then we'd be fine indefinitely.

We live in a gig economy now so emergency fund isn't quite as big of a deal when I could literally pull my phone out a minute after being fired and go make like $25 an hour Ubering >_>
