Mutants should be registered. There should not be giant Robot collecting them for no reason. But there should be a list of these people and their powers. Just Westchester County, New York, their is a mutant that can take off his glasses and wipe out a city block, there is another mutant that can control the very weather, there are two mutants that can literally control your mind. On top of that they can use their powers to track you. Bye bye civil liberties.

People equate these poor mistakes of nature to different human groups. And that is horrible. Minorities can't freeze people just cus. These mutants are dangerous.

Senator Kelly's existence is a plot device. In a world where people can turn air into fire and turn your mind into their plaything, this guy is as dead as a nudist in Siberia. Hell, his own son should have yeeted him off a skyscraper. But no, he lives because there's just no good way to get at him in a fictional world.

How does a registry help anyone?

Great, you have registered Scott Summers. You know he shoots devastating concussion blast out of his eyes. How is the populace safer?

Just how registered guns make the population safer. We will no who have these powerful weapons. Should we have the right to know if the guy across the street has x-ray vision.

Gun registration on it's own doesn't make people safer. A gun being registered does not stop someone from shooting someone. At best it helps potentially identify who's gun was used, but it certainly doesn't stop people from getting shot. As anyone can attest to if they have access to American news. What actually works in reducing violence is comprehensive, well-designed gun control.

The problem with the guns = mutants metaphor is that there is really no ability to have "gun control" on mutants without steps that at best are gross human rights abuses and at worst are straight up eugenics.

So cool, we know Bob on 12th street has X-Ray vision. How, with just registration, does that protect people from getting peeped on?

This is actually a good question - how do you separate the Marvel mutants and actual biological anomalies / defects? Do they need to be separated?

Oh the answer to this is both simple and horrific.

Whenever a-new baby is born, a DNA test is taken. If the X-Gene is located, they are added to the registry as a potential mutant. About 13-15 years later, that kid is then assessed for any developing mutant power and the registry is updated, additional assessments are done every 5 years for any secondary mutations. That way you know if double dick guy is a mutant who needs to be on a public registry or just a dude who has two dicks for non-X-gene reasons.

So it just requires the government to DNA test the entire population, regardless of criminal record.
