This reminds me of a story that happened at my college. A 19 year old woman was dating the security guard at our college who was 22 at the time. She hadn't told her parents that they were dating. One day, her parents decided to surprise visit her in her dorm and she ran out screaming rape, which didn't happen. The guard ended up going to jail, and less than 2 years later they found out she had lied about the entire thing. But after this story got national attention, a different judge resentenced him, which removed him from the Michigan registry and only kept him on the Indiana registry until he finished a strict 2 year probation. So for 2 years he couldn't have any contact with minors, use the Internet for anything other than school, or have a cellphone. His probation was supposed to end in October 2017, but got extended by 6 months, because he had used the Internet to look up a filter for his fish tank.
