Well I'll be damned - I didnt believe either of these!

Persona 3 Remake seems a bit weird at first blush but thinking on it is a fantastic chance to address the common complaints of there not being a truly definitive version of the game - and updating that story with modern production and flair could be really cool!

Designs for the new Jet Set look sick but I definitely am more skeptical of this one. Let's start by confirming Hideki Naganuma is on board and then I'll start getting excited.

As far as I know P1 and P2 may as well not even exist and they have been completely abandoned even as concepts.

Atlus keeps putting out P1/P2 DLC for their modern games.

The games with Social Links are going to be significantly more well-received by the current fanbase they've built up. It's just that simple.

Yeah I think if we ever get a remake of P1/P2 in full, modern 3D style it would be a ground-up remake that keeps more or less the same story and characters but drastically reworks how it is told to be more in line with modern Persona.

I don't really know how they'd do that, having played 2, but I think its more likely than keeping them the same.

But realistically I don't think either is going to happen.

I could see them putting out HD releases for 1 and 2, porting up the PSP games maybe.

Never a remake.

The series started with number 3 because the developers thought it would be cooler to get a "head-start" on the franchise.

Actually, isn't the PSP version of P1 already a remake?

I think the psp version of 1 mainly just changes the soundtrack/cg cutscenes to be more like the later persona games and the overworld map to use one that's more like other SMT games.

Both FES and P3P have big problems that stop them from being the best they could be.

If the remake combines all the stuff from both games and modernizes some things, then we'll finally have a definitive version of P3.

However, if they do something moronic like not include FemC then I'm out.

Isn't it great they released the remaster when the remake had already been in progress. Also feels too early for a P3 remake

P3 will be darn near 20 years old by the time this comes out lol

It's definitely not too early to remake P3, but the P3P port timing does feel kind of scummy (and short-sighted on Atlus' part).

The P3P rerelease is a shitty auto-generated AI upscale that with so little effort that there are examples of stairs in the background of CGs melting into an angular oblivion.

They did not lose any sleep putting that release together.

I'm probably nostalgic enough about JSR that I would day 1 purchase it regardless of how good it looks. I don't think I've dared hope for more since the Wii was the hottest stuff on the market. Now you've given me hope again it better deliver.

Yeah that's how Atlus does things. The only reason we got more Persona on PC was because they gave the fanbase one chance to prove it'd sell and it did. We probably did get a bit of luck with them picking Golden though as that's the game everyone wanted to see off the Vita.

Because P3 is the first "modern" Persona, and there is no true "definitive" version yet.

I sure hope so. First time it happened was the moment that drew me into the Persona games.

P1-2 remakes would need to be entirely different games basically to get the same level of interest 3-5 have outside Japan. P1 even got a remake and people still didnt care for it compared to the modern Persona stuff. P3 Remake would be pretty cool even if I want to see P6. Ill take anything at this point that isnt P5

I assume neither MC actually appears, so do they just need to change the pronouns used when people talk about them, or are there more significant story changes between the two routes?

The story is identical in the two routes. Don't think you'd have to change anything in The Answer.

If they did a remake, I'd want more changes in the MC's side, mainly adding S-Links with the male party members and friendship routes for the girls. FeMC stuff could be kept as is.

I would like to see 1 and 2 redone but it would definitely need to be more reimagining in-line with the later games than straight remake. Of course, Persona 1 actually sold better in the west (and in general) initially than even Persona 3. That game was surprisingly popular back then. I feel those games shouldnt just be abandoned.

On the issue of Persona 3 Portable only being released recently it would not be a problem if Atlus had not dragged their feet on porting it so much. Until the last few years they were very bad about ports to other platforms and on PC in particular their PR would be outright belligerent when asked about it.

I feel like there's zero chance of evokers being in the remake, which I'm honestly fine with. If they are they just won't look like guns anymore.

I'm totally fine with this being a test run for P6 in the same way Catherine was a test run of the P5 engine. This does seem to suggest that P6 is light years away.

Why wouldnt evokers be in the remake? Its a Japanese game so if anything the evokers would just potentially be censored in overseas versions.

just speaking from personal experience as a teacher, but high school / college aged people are far less tolerant now about any kind of reference to anything that could be seen as suicidal in nature

There might actually have to be some character rewriting, although not necessarily.

The Answer Spoilers: I don't know if it would make sense for Yukari to still be on Team Go Back Before the Nyx Fight and Try to Save MC in a FeMC route given that The Answer confirms that Yukari was in love with MC and it was her inability to let go that drove her to that. I'm not sure if she'd still be that dead set on it in FeMC route. Maybe flip Yukari/Mitsuru and Akihiko/Ken's roles in the tournament?

You wouldn't have to though.

P3P Spoilers: And if you're rewriting at any significant level you open the option of including Shinjiro in all this too since he can actually survive in FeMC's path and timeline wise he'd be awake at this point so they'd have to either retcon that and put him back in a coma (and just minorly rewrite that he's not dead like did at times in the main P3 story in this scenario). Or make him surviving non-canon for The Answer.

The Answer still happens even if you don't advance Yukari's S-Link though.

That might actually be the best idea. To remake them, but rework them to be more like the rest of the series. But it would be a ton of effort and probably super unlikely to happen, yeah.
