Keeping aeons charged up is nice for bosses in general. When the boss has an obvious tell for a brutal move, just pop out a meat shield and unload their overdrive. The really mean bosses will one shot them and often have specific moves for aeons, but at least you'll deal a nice chunk of damage and save your party some trouble.

Also I don't remember if Yojimbo ever Zanmato'd anything for me. Stingy fucker wants sooo much gil. >:[

I only ever use Zanmato on two occasions, Penance and Dark Bahamut because i didn't get the Sun Sigil on my first trip to Zanarkand ruins, and when i return he's blocking the path.

Doesn't Yojimbo's hidden friendship level (or whatever it's called) plummet if he dies? Don't use him as a meat shield if you want free insta-kills.

That sounds about right. I gave up on using him as anything but a meat shield though. I ain't wasting my time and money on his stupid microtransactions when I have like seven other aeons that actually do shit when asked.

I heard that passes are where most of the exp in Blitzball comes from.
If I was to start an unwinnable Blitzball game, run to my side and spend 10 minutes throwing the ball back and forth between my back three players like that soccer game from the Simpsons, could I powerlevel the Aurochs?

You can get free Zanmatos on difficult bosses in the arena and stuff (maybe dark Aeons?) I think, so helping Yojimbo can get things done.

Isn't that the only way you can use the Jecht Shot in the required match? Just keep passing the ball between Tidus and whoever so he levels up and can equip the skill at halftime? That's the only way I've won that match lol.

It's pretty clear that someone on the FF X / X-2 team was the original creator of the 'petrify' status ailment, felt that it was grossly underpowered in previous games, and saw X / X-2 as a chance to finally inflict their bitter vengeance upon the gaming populace.

Speaking of petrify, it's the best weapon ability to catch monsters. Either that or Deathstrike. Killed/captured almost everything in a single hit.

Stonestrike/Capture weapon + Mug was my favorite combo. Instantly capture most monsters and also snag some treasure while you're at it.

I'm gonna pre-emptively play the Mario Kart Double Dash 4th-8th place theme over this fight.

This is funnier than I expected. They scale with your level. This lore of this playthrough is that ronso are all pathetic and a bag of hi-potions is all you'll need to secure your position as new emperor of Gagazet and its people.

You can steal more then once. Your success rate is cut in half after every steal, so 100 > 50 > 25 etc. Last time I played I came out of that fight with 16 lvl3 key spheres. 6% steal rate is where I had to draw the line.

Slot 1 is Capture
Slot 2 is Stonestrike
Mug is a skill you use that simultaneously steals and attacks. The attack also applies whatever status or element you have on the weapon; in this case, petrification.

never understood why people always suggest zanmato or just blasting with stored overdrives. you just skip the boss that way, you dont really beat it

If it restores any hope, I didn't end up doing that and will only consider it if the boss goes out of its way to deserve it.
Using Rikku's overdrive to make vitalities got her and Tidus up to enough health to tank Total Annihilation and trying to goad Seymour into wasting turns on dispelling buffs was the way to go.

Zanmato is pay-to-win, but I don't see a problem with storing overdrives personally. You're using your resources to hit them hard and soak up any huge damage.

Meh, I wouldn't be surprised if mugging was a weapon trait in some Final Fantasy games and it wouldn't have been that out of place as a weapon ability in FFX.

yeah but with the amount of aeons Yuna has, bosses dont last too long after blasting them with each of them and then blasting them with party member overdrives until they die. its almost the same as just using zanmato

although i guess the game is kinda easy so theres already so many ways to trivialise it (using rikku at all)

Man, this Zanarkand stand on the buttons trial is real deal boring.
Edit: Actually counterpoint, having no recollection of some things in this game because it's been so long is pretty exciting.

It's really nice having something to fill the Xenoblade 1 shaped void.
Which is funny because Xenoblade 1's main appeal was once that it filled the FFX shaped void.

Well fuck, it's starting. I don't have anything that only removes confusion and not zombie, ended up being backed into a corner and hit with Mega Death.
I'm guessing there's no shop in this ancient desolate ruin. Time to make the walk of shame back to civilisation.

I like the somber atmosphere that Zanarkand gives, especially with that track that plays even through the battles.

I do too. That ruined path with the pyreflies everywhere and the dark blue sky is one of the first things I think of when I think of this game.

Speaking of thinking, I found the teleporter panels, went back and got Yojimbo, now I'm picking out a name.
Not planning to Zanmato anything but maybe unruly bosses will catch a glimpse of him on the summon list and rein their shenanigans in.

Amazing game. Only the second FF game Ive finished twice along with FF9. Battle System is top tier and just casually grinding isnt usually enough to beat some bosses as you have to really think out a strategy.

fuck yunalesca though and her death attack on her last form meaning you will almost always need to rewatch that entire fucking cutscene again.

After you beat her, don't go back outside.
Keep going forward despite it will teleport you back to the enteance of the room.

Ah I overlevelled for her. The first loss and the hundred year long cutscene made me overprepare.

Auron "I was able to ride Sin and go to your Zanarkand."
What does this mean? Sin decided to invade the recreated dream Zanarkand and tear it a new one? Jecht being Sin gave him a say in where it goes/some control over it? Somehow Auron who was real could visit a dreamed up city because of this?

Really should get back to my playthrough

Probably Jecht had some control. We know the hymn of the fayth sedates it a little bit because Jecht likes the hymn. As long as the final aeon kills the summoner and terrorizes Spira, Yu Yevon probably doesn't need to keep too tight a leash on it. And Dream Zanarkand is as "real" as any aeon. Like yeah, it originates as a dream of the fayth and disappears if it's no longer being summoned, but it's still a physical thing that you can interact with, just like how Bahamut can smack you in the face.

You did picked up the chest that contains the sun sigil after you beat her, right?

Pretty sure unless you prepare for her death spell you can over level as much as you want. It wont make any difference.

Remembered the chocobo race stuff being kind of a pain but I did it in 10-15 minutes.

Is there a good way to spread exp among Blitzball players?
I just won a game 14-0 but it was two players doing the same thing repeatedly. If I want to level the defenders do I just have to play bad on purpose and let the ball find its way over there?

One of my old friends had some cheese strat with Blitzball where after Tidus got sufficiently fast, he batied the the entire AI team to follow him around in a big circle, run out the clock, then score a single point when it was too late for them to make a comeback lol

Do I have to unlock Omega Ruins somehow? I'm clicking where it should be on the map and it's not coming up.

It may be a password. And I think you need to get the destruction spheres from all temples, including Yojimbo and Requiem

I mashed A while trying remote looking locations on the maps and against all odds, it worked.

As for the name they only give me 8 letters to work with. I got a real order/chaos decision to make here too. On one hand there's a nice opportunity to have a Xenoblade character here in spirit. On the other hand I could name her XBOX 360 or CD-i or something and that might be funny.

You have to input the coordinate iirc.
