It's Shimoa in JP, but they're pronounced the same by the Japanese.

Chances of Japan intending to name him Seymour seem very low.

I remember this vaguely. It was one of the ones I did.
The one that wouldn't play ball - literally - with me was trying to get one of Wakka's weapon parts out of Blitzball. I kept rerolling but they just never had it as the tournament prize.

It took forever and a lot of cursing at my tv, but I finally got the hang of it enough to get the sigil. Good news was that it imprinted some serious muscle memory; I replayed the game a few years later and beat it on the second or third try. No such luck for the butterfly-dodging minigame, that one remained a massive pain on every subsequent playthrough.

Lightning Dodging for the Mars (?) Sigil was always my Everest, though. I only ever successfully did it one time, after I stumbled hope from a party drunk, fired up the game and nailed it first try.

iirc you have to win all of Wakka's Attack Reels by playing Blitzball before the Jupiter Sigil becomes available. I actually really liked having it set up that way; I wouldn't have gone out of my way to waste time on Blitzball otherwise, but 'forcing' me to play it repeatedly by dangling that carrot actually caused me to start really enjoying it. I always looked forward to 'Blitzball season' on subsequent playthroughs (always put it off until endgame though, didn't want any of my favorite free agents getting locked into other teams before I had a chance to meet them).

You must get all of his 3 limit break first, and then it has 50% chance of appearing in a reroll.

Anyway, do i have a Mandela Effect or thrown from another dimension? Kimahri's butterfly was not that hard, the spawn wasn't random.

Blitzball was fun when the game allowed you to get players that don't eat marbles and drink paint.
I'm gonna leave Blitzball until I get the airship. All I can remember is Wedge being good and the Al Bhed goalie being a glorious freak of nature.
Also now that I think about it, don't the Aurochs end up being good when everyone starts getting into the high levels?

My depth perception is not my strong suit, especially in video games. In my case butterfly dodging was the opposite of chocobo catcher, in which it actually got worse / more frustrating as time went on.

Yeah. Keepa becomes one of the best forwards IIRC. Datto becomes super fast.
I think Lenny and Carl stay quite useless.

Sinspawn Gui down. I remembered that being a long fight. Nice to get it under control fast and have things go well.
I'd talk shit about people bringing swords to fight the giant whale but I just killed Sinspawn Gui with a beachball so eh.
Edit: Okay no I didn't, I have to fight him again. And this time he has the game's real boss theme, but I have Seymour. Getting mixed signals.
Edit: Threat averted this fight is just Seymour repeatedly slamming Sinspawn Gui's fingers in a car door then running his toes over by rapidly opening and closing a door. Being forced to use Auron and Yuna does remind me that this game likes to force certain fights and that the forced Kimahri fight's coming up eventually though.

That's a nice cloister of trials y'got there.
Be quite the treacherous turn of events if someone were to oh y'know maybe put on a land speed record sprinting straight to Youtube. Not that I nor anyone I know would do that.

Give Kimarhi the early extra Stength sphere from winning the Blitzball. Then have him go down Rikku's path and get Steal.

Also, use Black Magic Sphere to teach Yuna Firaga or something.

Kim's underrated.

It's certainly a subversion of expectations to have the giant angry cat-man bodyguard who doesn't speak for half the game be the party's Blue Mage / jack-of-all-trades.

The Blue Magic being his LB is a big downside.

There's quite a few sections where they just stand you in a room and get you to talk to each party member.

Yeah, there's quite a few fun missables when it comes to NPC dialogue. I think one of the Aurochs actually refers to Tidus by name when you talk to him on the Kilika docks towards the beginning of the game.

Macalania Woods is making it all come back. All the blue, the twisting paths.
The song caught me off guard the most. I remembered the melody but I thought it was from Runescape.
I never tried the butterfly thing either so I don't have that tainting my image of the place.

That's quite a gauntlet. Seymour and his two backup singers, Anima, the trial, being chased and then a random yet that banishes the party to some underwater place.

I'm at the Al Bhed fortress. I remember roughly what happens to this place so I guess I should pull up a list of missables if there're any in here. I'm not planning to be very thorough with this playthrough but still y'never know.

They're really milking the reveal that pilgrimages end in death.
Oh and they picked a great spot for it, we're in a burning, subterranean facility, chancing it with smoke inhalation.

So is it generally agreed that the voice over in the Al Bhed fortress sounds like it's saying "I'm annoying, huh?"
Edit: Wow Tiddus lifting Cid off the ground just like that.

I hope Evrae doesn't turn me into happy festival fireworks. I know this fight had a move back/forth gimmick to it.

evray is a top 5 most difficult boss fight in the game IMO

Fucker has haste.
And he does the roar then the game doesn't give you enough time to put in a command and back the ship up.

I gotta say this battle system's really addictive though. I'm grinding to get some levels for Rikku and more health on Tiddus and I'm not getting bored.
Someone even offered to play Co-op Resident Evil 5 the other day and I chose this over it. That probably doesn't sound like much but that's a big deal to me.

I think you're past it now, but Kimahri's fight is a good chance to pick up a lot of level 3 key spheres if you taught him steal and did the chocobo race at Remiem Temple for the second place reward. The reward lets you add the ability to double the amount of items stolen to a armor slot.

As for blitz ball, Brother makes a great mid fielder. His speed will let you kite opponents far from the goalie and get far enough away that no one can block your pass.

Fighting him atop an inflight airship that you could command in-battle to move away and fire cannons was pretty fucking cool in 2001.

Honestly, the whole string of sequences from Al Bhed Home to Bevelle to the 'Sudeki Da Ne' cutscene is one of my favorite franchise experiences.

Oh I see it now, Rikku's got a potion that undoes just about everything Evrae can throw at you in one fell swoop.
Edit: Wow I levelled just a bit and now Wakka's beating the fuck out of dragons. Didn't even need the Al Bhed potion.

Yeah, Rikku has some tricks that just trivialise the game. Wakka is also the best party member apart from Rikku since he does the most damage with his second overdrive.

My second auto-kill. Ambushed, confused, stunlocked to death with solo Yuna in the Via Purifico.

Rikku's LB is fucking cheap, potion+potion for a full healing. Hi potion+hi potion for doubling max HP. Making a lot of boss fights easier.

I'm at Seymour Natus, I'm gonna give that second one a try. That sounds busted.
Edit: Can't tell how well that worked. That was a really messy fight. It forced me to use Kimahri and I get to get him up long enough to switch out. It looked like the hi potion + hi potion randomly picked a target and Tiddus ended with with more health.

I'm gonna pre-emptively play the Mario Kart Double Dash 4th-8th place theme over this fight.

This is funnier than I expected. They scale with your level. This lore of this playthrough is that ronso are all pathetic and a bag of hi-potions is all you'll need to secure your position as new emperor of Gagazet and its people.

Well now that went better than expected. Yankie Doodle Ronso and BRIAN Ronso are no more.
I tried the steal thing and I got 4 lv3 key spheres which is pretty exciting.
You know what's not exciting though? I've just realised this is where you fight the really vicious version of Seymour with the gunship move and the ability to instakill aeons.

Just charge up the overdrives on all the Aeon's, and blast him with them one after another. I think you can use Rikku's overdrive to put haste, shell, protect, and null-all on everybody too.

That definitely sounds like a plan. I don't know if I have to get to a certain point to get Yojimbo or if I can just backtrack a few screens and add him to the pile. Ideally I don't really want to Zanmato anything though.

You can backtrack, you need the money tho.
