Yes but the good news is there's only 3 bosses to finish the game unless you're playing on the hardest difficulty.

Queen and the Sea also makes you fight 4 bosses.

Stilt Village is the "oh you think you're doing good? Well fuck you, how about that!?" zone
The pirate guys are pretty tough enemies when you're first getting used to them, but eventually you'll find Stilt Village is one of the chiller biomes like Tyranthraxus said. Stilt Village also has a food shop, something you will be very thankful for if you ever go there on higher difficulties.

You'll generally find some biomes more difficult than others, but even the ones considered more difficult like Slumbering Sanctuary and Cavern are pretty fun. There's really only one biome that the community as a whole seems to hate. And for good reason. I'll let you find that one for yourself.

Nah, it's not Forgotten Sepulcher. Forgotten Sepulcher is a weird one because initially its gimmick seems really frustrating to deal with. But personally, I find it to be one of the easier late stage biomes.

Nope although that's a solid #2. I personally like it because the high enemy density means I can get a malaise clear faster there than most other biomes but I understand it's a difficult biome at times. I personally think it's more tolerable than sewers as one wrong step in the sewers ruins your kill streak

It can appear at any point after Prisoner's Quarters and replaces all biomes of the tier you were about to enter. So for example, you can go there right after Prisoner's Quarters if the chest for the Bank shows up in passageway. The Bank would then replace Promenade, Toxic Sewers, and the other first tier biomes.

I beat the game and unlocked hard mode and I'm honestly not sure what to do. As far as I can tell I haven't unlocked anything that can create further progress, unless I just get access to other zones in the in between zones later on. I've gotten as far as the clock tower in hard mode and haven't seen anything different. Unless I'm missing something about that lava zone, but as far as I can tell I can't do anything there yet. Presumably I have to get some sort of lava invulnerability progression item.

The lack of full heals every zone shift in hard mode is absolutely devastating to me >_>

You can progress at your own pace but here's what you unlock by activating hard mode (1 boss cell)

  • Some doors will now open for your for a little extra stuff, like extra chests.
  • Some new enemies will begin appearing that can drop blueprints you can't get on normal
  • You now have access to the homunculus rune and can access homunculus areas for blueprints (boss cell not required just that you've beaten the game)
  • "Lava door" in the beginning of the game has the key to the cavern, use the homunculus rune to get through it. Use the key in the graveyard to get to the cavern. The graveyard can only be accessed from the insufferable crypt.
good luck.

I ended up dropping Dead Cells because 95% of my playthroughs would trivially make it to Hand of the King, then die to him. I was on 2BC, and absolutely nothing about any part of the game before Hand of the King felt difficult, but that fight is an absolutely ridiculous difficulty spike, and there is no way to practice it except at the end of an hour-long run.

When you get to him you unlock a boss rush mode of the three bosses you encounter up to that point, so you just have to beat the first two to get to him. That's what I did after getting slaughtered the first time.

Somehow I just missed the homunculus thing I guess. I think after seeing the ending after killing the hand of the king where you rolled round as a blob and then returned to start it one time gave me a prompt on how to do it which I missed and then I just assumed it was a cinematic thing for the ending.

I even looked in the scribe's progression list and saw it and read that it "allowed me to leave my body" or something and I said "what does that mean?" and just assumed it was some sort of Darksign thing.

I pretty much always use the assist mode to do better highlighting of the secret walls but I actually found using the other options there makes me play worse. Like I get into a mood where I don't feel like I have to concentrate and then start doing stupid shit. I play better when the game is harder.

The homunculus can also be used to damage & kill things while you hide in relative safety. It's very useful start getting used to using it all the time.

Homunculus is used to navigate through tight corridors that you can't fit in. If you CAN fit in it but can't progress, then it means you need a different power. You are probably thinking of the spider rune from Slumbering Sanctuary.

Funny story. I was at like 300 health and no potions in Sanctuary and I awoke one of those guys and i got scared shitless and ran to the unlocked entry to clock tower.

Every single time I used the teleporter next to him to port to the exit, he managed to yank me back to him a second before I reached it, to the point I just had to fight him. Luckily it worked out and I made it to the next zone. In which I promptly died, but at least I got to spend my cells.

Yeah there is no escaping them. They have unlimited range on that grab. It was widely considered the hardest enemy in the game until Break the Bank update was announced now there's a bit of an argument as to whether or not the Golem or the level 3 gold gorger is harder.

You don't. Just smash the door open or use custom mode to start with 10000 gold.

Originally the reserves used to let you carry up to 25000 across deaths but they changed it after doing a shop & prices rework but didn't change those doors.

oh didn't realize gold doors could be smashed. Somehow I lifted the 50 enemies curse for breaking it >_>

How exactly does the health potion refill work in hard mode? Does it appear on specific floors, or does using it means it will be less useable later? As in does it have a specific number of spawns or is it linked to progression?

IIRC

1bc = before bosses + flasks
2bc = before bosses
3bc = flasks before bosses
4bc = lol you looking for health?
5bc = same as 4 except now even eating food infects you with malaise

He was weirdly easy this time. Might have gotten lucky with extremely good drops. Had a wolf trap, a powerful bat (from hotline miami I assume) that has the ability to do a huge flurry of hits when the enemy is immobile, and a turret that reduced my damage taken by 25 percent when I was near it.
