Idk if they ever changed it, but one of the things I hated about the game was how enemies scaled with the number of upgrade scrolls you had. So after a certain point, it became better to stop picking up upgrades or the enemies would "outscale" your HP gains and be able to one-shot you.

This would explain why I had such an issue with 3 boss cells because Id go full glass cannon damage upgrades and be surprised when suddenly by the last zone Im getting one shotted if I miss a parry

That's not how it works. Enemies scale based on how far you've progressed through a run. If they ever did scale with scroll count, it must have been very early in the game's life. You do not ever want to skip over a scroll or you'll be really neutering yourself.

I didn't learn until very recently how important it is to basically choose one stat/weapon color and pump that as much as you can. Helped me get through 1BC, and then made 2-3 reasonable.

Again, they might have changed it, but it was definitely post-early access that enemies scaled with scrolls. There was even a "known" number of each color that was always recommended (8-7-13)

Yeah like I said, it must have been very early in the game's life still. I started playing in early 2019 and I don't remember the scaling ever working like that. I do think the game must have changed quite a bit in those first couple years though. The biggest change I can recall happening since I started is what they did to elite enemies.

It's since been changed. For a very, very long time. Enemies scale with the Biome and number of BSC's you have active. That's it. Skipping or missing a scroll is gimping yourself.

Putting the lion's share of your points into one stat gives you ridiculous damage with a synergized build, at the cost of HP. Spreading stats more evenly will let you tank a bit more, but your damage will suffer, hard. Damage scales exponentially, while HP has severe diminishing returns.

Enemies also scale with Malaise, but that's only really a factor in 5 BSC, unless you opt in before that.

It was never the case that you were better off not picking up scrolls. Yes enemy scaling was intense but more damage was always the better option.

Additionally the game doesn't allow the player to get killed if their health is over something like 40% no matter how much damage you take. It's not possible to get one shot unless you're cursed or you use a custom game modifier to turn that off.

tl;dr git gud

Apparently I haven't touched the game in longer than I thought. That mechanic was changed in 1.1, and they are on 3.2 now. Seems it's still possible to get two-shotted by end-game enemies, but it's no where near as bad as it used to be.

Back when Enemies did scale with scrolls, there was a point where you wanted to stop;
Any scroll that boosts your health by less than ~8/9% and also doesn't boost your damage (i.e. "off-stat scrolls" after a certain amount) are objective downgrades. They make enemies harder to kill without boosting your damage, and at the same time don't give you enough health to make up for the enemy damage boost. This is the situation where you should stop picking up scrolls.

That's how the game is intended to be played. You have an extremely limited flask use on higher difficulties. It's not like dark souls where you can just chug all day and refill it later.

Well it doesn't really matter now, but back then, I would disagree. Even on-color, you would only see marginal increases to damage late-game, and it would be at the risk of the enemies gaining a substantial increase in power.

I have to imagine that's why they decided to ditch that system

Short answer: yes

Long answer: you cannot unlock new boss cells or earn flawless outfits/achievements while using an aspect. Otherwise there's no drawback to using one. Some combos with aspects are stupidly broken.

Boss cells only drop from the final* boss. They unlock despair and suffering.

*The 5th boss cell is gotten by doing something specific while having 4 boss cells.

I'll explain boss cells a little easier.

There's bosses and then there's your final boss at the end of your run. The final boss will drop a "boss cell", you can use these boss cells on your next run to make the game harder/earn better drops and stuff.

There's are 5 boss cells, so thus you must beat the game 6 times to "complete" it. 0BC is the starting difficulty, beat it once you go to 1BC, and so on and so forth. New enemies, new tactics, etc etc.

When you get to 4BC you have to go a specific route to get the 5th BC and that's all I'll say about that.

Okay, so I beat playthrough 1 and boss cell 1, but I've been hard stuck on this playthrough for 99% of my gameplay time. I've unlocked very very few weapons amd I have 40 that are 1 cell away from unlocked, as some of early stuff like Kunai and fire seems fantastic.

Is there anything else I unlock by mass unlocking some of these?

Also, since my playtime has been 99% playthrough 2, I have everything that can be hunter grenaded in all paths up to the first boss, but is it worth it to drop back down to 0 or 1 Boss Cells to get some stuff from later on in the run and DLC, since I cant help but kill myself with curse every damn playthrough of 2 Boss Cells?

My suggestion is to max out the legendary forge ASAP if you haven't done that. Also if you don't have custom mode yet then get that too and use it to turn off gear that you don't like using. Custom mode does not disable achievements or anything unless you toggle an option marked with a padlock or block off items so that there's less than 20 available in the pool. It's intended as a way for players to not feel punished by unlocking an item that sucks by letting you lock it again. So if you found a weapon you really liked, you can increase your odds of finding it more.

Yes. It's from The Fatal Falls DLC.

The 3 main DLC packs (Bad Seed + Fatal Falls + Queen and the Sea) essentially combine to give an alternate story to the game.

Main game plus Rise of the Giant (Free DLC) is the main original story.

Castlevania is just a side thing for fun it's not canon to dead cells.
