What is Game of the Month Club Replay?

Game of the Month Replay is a community project based upon the Game of the Month Club. Much like the GOTM Club, it's open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a bonus chosen game every month. The two games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck).

The only catch is, it must be a game that the GOTM Club has already played, so it's an opportunity to replay games you may have missed out on the first time or just want to try again.

The Basics

- Each month will usually feature two games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each of the games you beat you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's game is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules

- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for beating one of the featured games
- Each game you nominate has to be one that was already nominated for the GOTM Club.
- You can nominate games that have already been selected for the Replay Topic, but not the same game twice in a row.
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's game but before the end of the month
- You have 9 supports you can use throughout the year. Your only limitations are that you can't support your own nomination, and you can only use one support per game per month

At the moment Penny Arcade is a pretty easy atb rpg and a sort of barebones point n click. I can see why it got sort of mediocre reviews; although I honestly started to find the silly dialogue kind of charming as I played it a bit longer. The fruit robots are still rather off putting ... >_> And one of their attacks looks like it's pissing on you. On purpose I'm sure.

It's a pretty painless playthrough so far, although I just finished one area, opened the home base and spoke to someone else in a second area that just sent me to a third...to collect I hope not as many robot parts as it appears I may have to. 100 something would be a lot...

KCF has beaten Princess Remedy

I said in the previous topic that despite having not played it since 2020, or maybe even 2019, I should probably still do a 100% run in sub-30 minutes. I finished in 30:34 lol. I think that my first run back in 2015 was around 45-50 minutes. My personal best is I think 16:xx.

I've played this before so I decided to do the run on hard mode and get 101% by going for the Jealous Chest. A few battles gave me trouble but I beat the final boss first attempt, whereas the first time I played it caused me some serious issues. The power of 6/5, uh, power, I guess.

Will be doing my Princess Remedy run this week most likely.

Princess Remedy beated!

That was a fun little 45-50 minute game. Only got 99% though. Missed one heart and the Jealous Chest.

Just got to Pelican Bay. Although I still need to find the protagonist a new home, which appears like it will be in a place cleverly labeled "The Shithole" due to that being the only possible place to stay mentioned thus far. I'm sort of remembering how juvenile PA gets sometimes.. other times the stupid dialogue is more funny but sometimes it dates itself..

Areas are still pretty basic, overall it kind of reminds me of one of those Kickstarter video games. The ones that have more heart than budget, and more inspiration than game design. I like it a bit more than it's individual parts would suggest.

The fighting has certainly gotten harder although there it can be hard to tell just if you can handle a fight ahead of time sometimes

Long title, short game. Steam has me as beating it in 6.9 hours. Nice. lol.

The last boss definitely had me working for it, must have used up all my items except for a couple. Overall it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either; was hard to get back into every day but I had a decent time when I got going. Being short is in its favor. Although I will have to start nominating Episode 2 now.. >_>

It appears the main club hasn't done it, so I'll have to be the one to suggest it.

A bunch of us played it, but all except MMX dropped it. I don't think he liked it either and had no plans to nominate the sequel.

I can't stop now that I've started and I own them all. And some of the text was funny. Also, I have high hopes for part 3 and 4 which were made by Zeboyd games instead of Hothead and are apparently quite different.

Note that there are supports this month. And I'm thinking of going up to three games chosen because I can see how quickly this ends if people don't like one of the games and the other is really short. Three games at least lowers the odds of this.

It's not. That chest contains power boost 6 of 5 so it doesn't affect your ability to get 100%.

Some places you might check for what you're missing:

• 2F of the crystal palace, the king is frozen in an ice cube and blends into the tileset.
• the destroyed town in one of the later areas has a wilting flower you can revive in one of the houses
• the whole outer space area has a couple easy to miss secrets with one battle behind them

Other than those it's probably just overlooking an NPC somewhere without it being particularly hidden.

Unrelated but I love how you can marry your mom, and she'll just be like "I think we need to have a serious talk about why you thought this was okay"

The first time I played the game, this was the one that I missed.

I think I got the ice cube one. What I wasn't sure about was how to get back to your kingdom to talk to the people there.

I think there's a secret path through the outer space area to get back there after beating the game. But all you get out of it is some NPC dialogue.

I'm thinking of doing the new game pull next Tuesday night, although in some time zones it may be Wednesday morning by then.

Two things to note, I'm accepting supports now like the main game club, as well as I'll be choosing three games from now on, because wow. This month ended fast.

I had a thought about maybe using general game length to tier off the games selected.

Maybe each month there's 1 selection in a <10 hour tier, 1 selection in a <30 hour tier, and a final selection that's 30+ hours (but that one actually lasts 2 months).

Length could just be based on howlongtobeat's Main+Extra info. Doesn't have to be completely strict either. Maybe a game that's 12 hours long could fall into the <10 and <30 tiers but obviously only gets selected for one of them, with the other tier being redrawn.

I'm probably thinking too complicated. I just know that there's likely very few times someone could play all 6 games selected between GotM and GotM Replay in a single month, should someone want to do that. Especially if there were 3-4 30 hour long games selected.

Anyway, I'll be focused on Tears of the Kingdom for May (and probably June and maybe July too), so I don't plan on nominating anything until that game's done. If something short and sweet is picked, I might divert my time for a bit though.

At least for the 30+ hour games I'd also been considering giving more time. Especially for something like a Persona game which could easily take three months or more if you play it 150+ hours.

The easiest might be to just roll an additional game if something shorter than a couple hours gets rolled. But I'm cool with anything, personally.

Beat Princess Remedy.

98% completion, and it seems I missed some secrets too. Still a surprisingly enjoyable gameplay loop - I could see myself eagerly replaying this in the future, and it's successfully interested me in the sequel to boot.

I don't trust myself to actually consistently manage to play anything I nominate as of now, so holding off on that.
