Not gonna lie. This pronounce game is something I don't really understand. I mean, I'm on the left on most issues, been called a socialist and a communist a bunch of times, I'm very much a equal opportunity kind of guy. I believe that every person should be treated as a person and that too many conservatives have become bullies that basically brought this stuff upon themselves, and they have shot themselves in the foot on a bunch of issues.

They can't use science as an argument, since they are basically deniers whenever it conflicts with their interests.
They can't use morality as an argument, since every big moral fight about humanism they have lost and basically conceded, often without admitting defeat.
They can't use individuality as an argument, since they are so focused on traditional values as the one way.
They can't use free markets as an argument, since they hate when it's demonstrated against through free market mechanisms.

But I can't wrap my head around how this "I can have whatever pronoun I want and you need to respect it, best done through law" is gonna work and it's one of those conservative talking points I feel makes more sense.

Not only is it the same lame insults, they're just doing it to be giant pricks. That's been the whole American far right conservative ideology for a good while now. The right are the types who would still make fun of special needs children with the moans and the hand gestures and such. The types who would make fun of handicapped people. They never grew up and grew out of that mindset of children and young teenagers who don't know any better. They just want to be mean to people they see as beneath them.

in the mid 10s as right wing extremism was starting to really take off online you saw a lot of this tactic, what those on the radical right called "hiding your power level" where they would tamp down on their own views slightly or pose as a moderate/leftist and win people over to their side gradually through shit like this.

It honestly worked disgustingly well for a while but it's more miss than hit nowadays. Whether it's because people have gotten better at recognizing it or whether conservatives have just gotten really fucking bad at it is up for debate.

Tbh, the one where the guy is trying to get on the lifeboat on the Titanic and the guy says "women and children first" and the guy saus "did you just assume my gender?" is pretty funny. Though admittedly it was funnier because all this right wing shit actually got concerning.

I mean, he/him she/her they/them are just normal pronouns, no reason not to use them. If you find the one person who actually uses one of the other pronouns that people seem to have a problem with, a simple "I'd rather just not talk to you" will suffice.

Buddy we're talking about just calling someone what they want to be called. If someone introduces themselves as Chris do you say "No, you're name is Christopher"? No, you call them Chris like they requested, so why is it hard to call someone she or he or they when they ask you to?

So what do you feel is the correct way? Since this topic is about pronouns, and that is what I feel I don't understand the "far left" argument of. What limitations are there to what should be accepted pronounces and should they have legal implications if they are not abided with?

So the rightwing humor now is that some people are saying that "whatever I feel like, is what I should be referred to as". I'm assuming that you don't want to stretch it that far, but you are maybe closer to that than me thinking that he/him/she/her and maybe a 3rd category is what we should limit ourselves to as far as laws go.

As far as trans go:
In general I feel trans should be treated as normal people, both in law and in culture.

Probably, in my opinion, trans should be treated as a minority group and people who target them should be pursued with hate crime laws. (Which perhaps is the wrong direction when it comes to being legitimized as the opposite sex, so maybe I'm wrong here?)

I find the sports argument really difficult, as there's a reason there is women's competitions also and not just a mixing of the sexes. And I believe that battle was long and hard and is still going on. Maybe a own group of competitions should be created?

What solutions would you like to see?

You're not confused, that is what this is about. If someone wants to be called xer, why would you not do that? We call people what they want to be called in every other situation in life, why would this be any different?

Oh, I definitely would. I want people I meet to be happy and that means something to me. Even from a selfish point of view, I would call them what they wanted to be called, within reason.

I think the big discussion about those kind of defined pronounces is that some want laws to come with them, like if you don't address me as "x", that can have ramifications for your job, not it being about names and nicknames.

2) Not my concern.

Very little of this stuff relates to me and I tend not to care, though I do like to understand. As mentioned before, I tend to like people around me to be happy, so I have had no interactions with trans people that has been an issue.

If one changes and no laws (or rules?) changes around them, then there is nothing to worry about. Since this is such a big deal on both parts, I doubt that "no laws" (there are like thousands of laws) are changed. If they are of importance, that I'm less sure of.
