Some people think they are losing their identity, others think it's the correct decision. Personally while I think I will enjoy FF16, I hope we will get another one one day

That's just Square Enix being what they are. They've had a boner for trying to turn Advent Children style action in to a game forever.

Not sure if it's counts, but startropics is a good example. It was made in Japan, but a lot of western references were made in the game, like the main character having an American name, and a bunch of references to American culture like Coca-Cola

I've made a similar topic before. Japanese game devs are Fantasy Medieval Euroboos. Apparently Japan loves D&D and that's what heavily inspired Japan to make so many fucking Medieval Europe stuff in Anime and their games.

However, our leader Kojima, is superior to the rest of his brethren because the man is an Ameriboo.

FF16 isn't really a good example. They still look kind of anime-ish even though it's based on European styles. Like Berserk or Lodoss War. And the gameplay style is still very Japanese.

Forspoken and The Quiet Man are better contemporary examples. But this was more prevalent in the late 00s/early 10s because the design, gameplay, and region they were being developed in were all Western-based and outsourced.

The FF7 remake literally got NPCs that looked like people I have met in real life. I even went to a bar lately where the barmaid basically looked like a Tifa clone. I mean yeah, the game obviously got some typical anime stuff, especially Cloud's design, but they seem to try to make the characters look more like real people than anime characters

That's not even getting into the cringe tropes surrounding certain anime. Because the Sony board in particular has a lot of cringe complaints.

So what you are saying is "more western" means "they aren't cartoons"?

You might want to reconsider the logic because it has a couple of holes.

Why do you keep using things that aren't Western influences as examples of Western influences?

Not everything Japanese is anime and Western games don't have a monopoly on realistic character models.

Ye, but they also didn't change it in any particularly "western" way. The same was why they had DmC made as Capcom had no clue WTF "western" meant so they kind of just threw crap around until throwing up their hands and giving something to a western studio.

Not Call of Duty or DR3 but they wanted to copy a bunch of elements from other western franchises from DR4 and forgot they were making a DR in the first place.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6glExmQadfY
Capcom: Make Dead Rising.
Vancouver: Make the Last of Us, got it.
Capcom: No, Dead Rising.
Vancouver: Assassin's Creed, will do.
Capcom: Dead Rising
Vancouver: Batman? Uncharted? You mean GTA?
Capcom: Make Dead Rising or you're all fired.
Vancouver: Oh, of course. Dark Souls!
This is one franchise that could potentially have been said to have been killed for chasing the western audience. Then again the producers they got for it were EA devs (that fled back to EA after the game flopped) who never worked on a DR before.
Although DR was always rather "western" to begin with so it's more that it flopped for trying to chase the audience of other franchises.
