FF16 isn't really a good example. They still look kind of anime-ish even though it's based on European styles. Like Berserk or Lodoss War. And the gameplay style is still very Japanese.

Forspoken and The Quiet Man are better contemporary examples. But this was more prevalent in the late 00s/early 10s because the design, gameplay, and region they were being developed in were all Western-based and outsourced.

The FF7 remake literally got NPCs that looked like people I have met in real life. I even went to a bar lately where the barmaid basically looked like a Tifa clone. I mean yeah, the game obviously got some typical anime stuff, especially Cloud's design, but they seem to try to make the characters look more like real people than anime characters
