The systematic training of dogs leading the blind began after the First World War in Germany but history of service dogs goes back two thousand years:

The story of dogs being used as service animals begins in Pompeii in 79 AD. Excavations have revealed a wall-painting of a dog leading a blind man. Over the course of history there are records from Asia and Europe of dogs leading blind men.
The systematic training of dogs leading the blind began after the First World War in Germany. Many men were returning from the front line blinded by poison gas. A German doctor, Dr. Gerhard Stalling, got the idea of training dogs quite by coincidence. He and his dog were walking with a blind patient on the hospital grounds when Dr. Stalling was called away on an emergency. He left the patient with his dog and upon his return, he could see that the dog was looking after the blind patient.
Dr. Stalling began working to determine ways to train dogs as reliable guides and opened the worlds first guide dog school in 1916. The school grew and new branches opened across Germany, training 600 dogs a year primarily for servicemen, and later for civilians.
Over the next ten years, thousands of guide dogs were trained and working as service dogs, but the quality of the dogs had declined and the business venture failed. Luckily, another guide dog training center had since opened in Potsdam, Germany in 1923, run by the German Shepherd Dog Association.
In 1927, Dorothy Harrison Eustis, an American dog trainer visited the training center in Potsdam and was so impressed with it, she wrote an article for an American newspaper describing the methods and success of the training center. After hearing about the article, an American blind man, Morris Frank, contacted Eustis and told her he would like to introduce guide dogs to the United States. Eustis took up the challenge, trained a dog (Buddy) for Frank. Shortly after, Eustis established two guide schools; one in Switzerland and another in Morristown, New Jersey. Realizing the need for properly trained instructors, she established a training school for instructors in Switzerland.

The European version of his Popeye movie was almost 15 minutes shorter.
In the NA version, his search for his father was a big part of the plot.
In the European version, all that is cut and he just appears at the end.

THE EVIL JUDGE (BIG Yikes ahead)

A 16th century painting showing the skinning alive of a corrupt judge, Sisamnes, in the year 500BC.
Sisamnes was a corrupt royal judge at the time of Cambyses ll in Persia.

It was discovered that he took a bribe in court and passed an unfair judgement. As a consequence the king ordered that he be arrested for his corruption and ordered that he be skinned alive. Before passing judgement the king asked Sisamnes who he wished to nominate as his successor. Sisamnes, in his greed, chose his son, Otanes.

The king agreed and appointed Otanes to replace his father. He subsequently passed judgement and ordered that Sisamnes removed skin should be used to upholster the seat on which the new judge would sit in court to remind him of the potential consequences of corruption.

Otanes, in his deliberations, was forced to always remember that he was always sitting on the skin of his executed father. This helped to ensure fairness and equity in all his hearings, deliberations and sentences.

Note that the above joke is untrue.

The squirrel would die about 2-3 days into its descent from thirst rather than the roughly 6 days it would take to starve from falling 4,800 miles, so it would die from a lower height

Washington Post article

In 2022, a claim circulated on social media asserting that, on July 8, 99 percent of the worlds population would experience daylight or twilight simultaneously.
EarthSky.org crunched the numbers. At 11:15 Universal time, or 7:15 a.m. Eastern time, on July 8 each year, about 96 percent of the planets population is bathed in at least a bit of sunlight. An additional 3 percent is in astronomical twilight, which occurs when the sun is below the horizon but its glow still illuminates a patch of the sky. This means, 99 percent of Earths nearly 8 billion residents will be on the sunlit side of Earth at the same time. July 8 turns out to be the day that most people around the planet experience daylight at the same time.

This occurs because most of Earths population lives on one side of the planet. It might not look like that on most maps, but thats because the majority of classroom maps are distorted to be population-centric. In reality, the Pacific Ocean occupies virtually half of Earth. When its nighttime there, its daytime for almost all of Earths land masses.

Victorian women had an "intimate wig" called a Merkin. They were used by courtesans to mask signs of VD. You see, syphilis was treated with mercury, which caused the hair to fall out. So a bald "lady garden" used to be a sign that someone "poisoned the well". And working women would try to hide that to stay in business.

Some facts about Scooby Doo On Zombie Island *may contain spoilers*
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/6/1/6/AAA_aCAAEqfY.jpg
The only reason this movie was made in the first place was because the Scooby Doo property tested well in a survey with mothers.
Some screen writers wanted real monsters, because they were tired of all the fake ones, while others thought it ruined the Scooby Doo formula. The Director compromised by using both fake and real monsters.
This was supposed to be a one-off direct-to-video movie, so it had no studio interference. It sold extremely well and had great reviews, which resulted in another 36 direct-to-video movies over 24 years. It was also the darkest one, with onscreen deaths! The sequels got toned down.
The movie is based on an unfinished SWAT Kats episode.
Frank Welker, Freds voice since the beginning in 1969, was the only old voice.
Hearher North, the second and then current Daphne voice, did a day of recording before being replaced by Mary Kay Bergman.
Don Messick, Scoobys original voice, had retired in 1996 and died in 1997, and was replaced by Scott Innes.
Casey Kasem, Shaggys original voice, was supposed to return. But he had recently gone vegan and demanded that Shaggy should stop eating meat and dairy. Billy West got the role instead. Casey would later return as Shaggy.
B.J. Ward had voiced Velma earlier in that Johnny Bravo episode.
It was the first Scooby Doo production that alludes to a romantic relationship between Fred and Daphne.
It is the only movie not executive produced by Hanna and Barbera prior to their deaths.
They promoted hard that this is the first time that they have met a real monster, but they had med real supernatural monsters at least 5 times before.
Fred is seen eating more than he ever did in the almost 30 years history of the series.
The name of the pirate ship is Maelstrom, a reference to the ship in Pirates of Dark Water.
There is a chance that this movie inspired The Blair Witch Project.

The happiest countries in the world have the highest antidepressant consumers.

This paradox has of late become the focal point of the criticism directed at studies of happiness, with people from around the world, including Finns themselves, pointing out that the measures used often dont account for such things as loneliness in highly-developed societies and the fact that material well-being does not preclude conditions like clinical depression. What they really rank is how well each nation has created the conditions for happiness among its citizens. Because happiness itself is too ineffable, individual and elusive to be contained within such prosaic things as rankings and measurements.
