Look at all the drug addicts and alcoholic dudes from the 70s/80s being the biggest acts.

It's pretty fucking sad lol

Tbh it's wild to me how many bands from the late 90s/early 00s are still kicking around. Even ones who were bad back then like Orgy and Papa Roach are still out playing festivals and shit

Rock Music isn't embarrassing.

What passes as "Popular" Rock Music these days is embarrassing.

Not a lot of Rock music make it to the mainstream nowadays, but there is plenty of great rock music being made.

Rock music is embarrassing when it refuses to get with the times.

If you're out there talking about "reaaal music, man" but what you actually mean is that every song has a 3 minute guitar solo and everyone has long hair, the only people that care about that are 40 year old nerds.

Everything on SiriusXM Octane sounds like it's just younger millenials trying to emulate how bands from 20+ years ago acted, and coming off as dated and juvenile. Rock has branched off into so many subgenres, but hard pop rock on the radio is just painfully out of date.

Yeah, that's because there hasn't really been a rebranding of what "rock" is since the "buttrock" era of the 2000's.

50's had bubblegum rock
60's had psychedelic rock
70's had drug rock
80's had heavy/glam rock
90's had alternative rock
00's had radio rock (what I consider buttrock)

And there really hasn't been anything "new" in the mainstream since then.

I feel it doesn't compare to the 80s and early 90s and the huge amount of counterculture acts that were still touring. We even had a notorious fandom who followed "The Grateful Dead" around on concerts called Deadheads. The only thing that killed it was Jerry Garcia dying.

It was another example of the 30 year stranglehold the Boomer generation had on pop culture.

TC, leave the whining about rock music gimmick to TrickFinger, it's all he has. And maybe try listening to anything other than popular radio rock.

Agreed.

Problem is, people equate "modern" with "whatever's on the radio".

Like I said earlier, there's a lot of great new rock music out there, it's just getting harder and harder to find it because they're not playing it on the radio.

It is, but you're not going to find it on the radio. Modern pop radio is grasping at all demographics, when there's way more variety to find on Spotify and Tik Tok.

Octane is embarrassing. All the music sounds the same and its that same buttrock style with the loud overproduced choruses. All these ex-hot topic bands are doing that sound now and getting really popular doing red state rock festivals

I'm jealous, I didn't check out the tour until it was too late and not near me at all. I personally would flip Fortress and Blackbird as my 1 and 2 but I definitely agree that Pawns & Kings is easily up their. After The Last Hero and Walk the Sky, which were a bit disappointing, Pawns & Kings really steps it back up.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I disagree heartily, I thought The Last Hero was incredibly weak, same as Walk the Sky. Blackbird and Fortress are top tier but Pawns & Kings is right next to them.
