I don't want to be one of "those people", but it really turned me off the first game. Any word on Tears ?

I have my doubts they will get rid of it (if the pre-release trailers highlighting a broke as fuck Master Sword are any indication), but I'm hoping it's at least made far less egregious.

Keep it in, and let us be able to upgrade them to be unbreakable.

I just can't imagine any version of me in any dimension, or even a version of me where a different sperm made it to the egg that day, looking at weapon durability in a game and going "Man I am glad they put this in here".

breaking, but non-permanent. introduce smiths around the world to give me a reason to keep a diverse arsenal and something to spend rupees on. dead island and new vegas had this figured out a long time ago

Dead Island's was good. I just think Id get bored really quick in BotW if one weapon was the obvious choice. And I feel like the only person around here who liked the durability stuff. I never struggled to have a bunch of good weapons and I liked big fights giving me a reason to find more after.

What do people want to pick up and be rewarded with if they don't want weapons to break?

I'll tell you, they don't, because they don't actually want to play Breath of the Wild at all because it's open world and 'not real Zelda'

Why does it need a "system"? Did the previous Zelda games have one?

honestly, i did end up finding myself with more than enough weapons, but that's why the entire game would have to be retooled around it. weapons would need to be much more diverse in their utility, and have varying stats and strengths and weaknesses, and i don't think nintendo ever plans on making the jump for zelda to go full blown RPG like that

but it is what i would want

I kinda liked picking up enemy weapons or branches and shit to deal with little guys. You basically get the weapon of the thing you killed to replenish more weapons than you use. That whole resource management aspect made it more interesting to beat up the same enemies. Like sometimes I just want to burn shit with the fire rod, and sometimes I want to ram through stuff with the big swords even though it's inefficient. There are way more than enough drops to let you do this.

None of that requires weapon durability

Without durability, there's no resource management outside of arrows? There's also no sense of using a big rare fragile weapon being an inefficiency. Those were like 2 of my biggest points. I don't understand how you even say that lol

People saying there's more than enough disposable weapons to get by are missing the point of what made the durability system annoying.

The issue was never a lack of weapons. It's still annoying to have them break every other fight. Having to constantly pause the action to switch weapons because your latest one shattered like glass yet again for the umpteenth zillion time is not fun or satisfying gameplay.

It still blows my mind at the obvious missed opportunity they had with BotW. They put in a crafting system. They sprinkled mining material all over the world. They even put rare drops on special enemies and stuff.

Make it so I can use those crafting materials to upgrade my weapons so they dont break and/or let me fix broken weapons.

The solution to the problem is literally already in the game, they just didnt bother expanding on the crafting/mine collection side of things.

I don't mind the durability system, but I would have liked if they also added in permanent weapons as well. It's fun playing around with different weapons, but maybe make side quests or something mid game or later where you can get a permanent model. Maybe you can't use the weapon until you have a certain heart/stamina requirement similar to obtaining the Master Sword or something so people can't just run straight there at the beginning of the game.

The biggest reason I've held off on diving into BotW is the durability system.

That and I know it's a big time commitment too

Weapon breaking system is great! It adds depth!

*as you farm the same weapons that are the best because they keep breaking*

yeah, there needs to be some balance and system.

durability is fine - add unique weapons that can be repaired with materials enemies drop, add randomized stats to weapons to make replacing them worth while when they break.
