It's pretty crazy to me. The game is openly progressive (diverse characters and even features a trans character) yet people are avoiding it due to the person who made the original IP.

None of those options. I'm not planning on buying the game, because I don't have any real interest in it, and I don't have a computer that can play big budget games. I like the HP series, but I also dislike Rowling.

Personally, I'd tend to side with not supporting Rowling since she's been on an anti-trans crusade, but I'm also not going to hold it against anyone if they buy the game.

That would take actual effort from people who just want an excuse to harass people.

Didn't care for the game at first, but all the bitching made me look into it and I eventually bought it. It is a good game. So the cancelling attempts had the opposite effect for me and it ended up being free advertising.

1st one but i will not go out of my way to bully other peeps. ill just hate on the game

I didn't vote because none of those really fit me.

I personally won't buy the game new, at the very least, because it will in some small way contribute to Rowling's coffers. I don't really judge people who do, but I do roll my eyes at the gymnastics people do to justify it.

Fail poll. No option for feel strongly about it, won't play it, but don't mind if other people do. Encroaching on other people's freedom is not the way to win allies.

No, it doesn't. There is nothing in the game to suggest the goblins are Jewish. It is actually pretty antisemitic for people to make that association...

The "controversy" isn't entirely wrong, but it's becoming a bit of a purity test for angry morons to attack other people over to feel like they're "changing" something, even though it won't do jack shit to prevent christofascists from making laws to attack transgender people. I was never going to buy it because I think Harry Potter is dumb but I hate JK Rowling and support, at least in spirit, anything that seeks to limit her ability to facilitate bringing about her ideal world. However, this is a really good example of the very intentional limitations of boycotts and why not to invest so much in them, especially one that was so obviously DOA as this one.

The worst places in Hell are reserved for me because I am remaining neutral in a time of great moral crisis. :v

i'd argue this was was moreso slacktivism than really trying to boycott the product. There is not a single sane person on this Earth that thought this boycott would succeed. JK Rowling could say all minorities are subhuman and the game would still sell. Harry Potter is just too damn big. But it's noncommittal and free to be a dick to people online, many of them were already doing it without having a cause, and it ended up radicalizing the already terminally online people on both sides and now I feel things are worse than ever
