Yeah, schools should have comprehensive life skill courses. There's so much pointless fat they could cut as well, so it's not like it'd even require more time or money if they actually balanced everything properly.

Shouldn't have to be a full-on bill to get this done, but if that's what it takes then that's what it takes.

Whole education system needs a massive overhaul, really.

This would definitely be a useful class for students to have. I remember taking a class similar to this in college, but never received this kind of information while in high school in California. My grandmother taught me everything I know about finance and saving money, but not everyone is fortunate enough to have people like that in their lives.

Yes, I think this is good. I once saw a meme shared by the more progressive types suggesting that teaching financial literacy is morally wrong because capitalism is bad (which it is). I'll see if I can find it so we can all have a good laugh.

Yes, this is such a needed class. When I was in high school, my math teacher took it upon himself to teach us about finance.

Gave us a whole breakdown about personal finance. He also talked about how credit card companies used to have representatives at universities and would sign up students for a credit card in the hopes that they'd end up with huge amounts of debt.

Absolutely, this is a great idea. I'm also a personal advocate of making debate mandatory in high school so people know how to frame an issue and break down their arguments into defensible points.

The only possible concern I could have is that mandatory curriculums are already pretty full and I'm not sure what's going to give in order to add another one. Our students just going to lose out on electives? Is the school year going to be made longer? Or is something else going to have to get cut to make room for this?

I took a personal finance class in HS and a short one in college. They were both close to if not completely fucking useless. Maybe this class would be better, but I expect it's closer to the mandatory personal finance classes some states make criminals take - completely divorced from reality focusing on useless information and personal savings.

I am. I saved for years to pull this off. I also live in a state with a lower cost of living, no way I'd try this in New York or Cali. I also intentionally got a bigger space than I need now so I can move into somewhere smaller later and have some profit to live off of.

Anyways, I believe econ is required in HS, right? They should dedicate a few weeks of the year to teach finance and basic investing.
