It's not that bad in the shows, the only time it's referenced is one episode of Beyond where he's looking at pictures of his old girlfriends.

There is apparently a comic storyline where he and Babs have an affair while she's with Dick, she gets pregnant, Dick beats the fuck out of Bruce, and then Babs has a miscarriage because she kept doing vigilante shit.

I mean the Return of the Joker movie all but states in clear words that Bruce and Barbara did have an actual relationship:

Barbara: "And I stayed on..."
Terry: "As his partner."
Barbara: *meaningful look*
Terry: "As his girlfriend?"
Barbara: *continues look*
Terry: "Whoa."

And some people don't count Mystery of the Batwoman as being "proper" DCAU, but there's a scene where Bruce and Tim are in the car and Bruce is on the phone with Barbara and as the scene cuts to her she's doing the "I'm on the phone with my boyfriend" pose.

Is that a Bruce Timm joint or was it someone else?

It's super creepy because their relationship feels paternal.

While that is very bad there is something I hate more.

It's the spite Paul Dini has. Allow me to explain, Paul Dini never wanted Nora Freeze cured and for there to be a happy conclusion to the Mr. Freeze story. He was so agianst this that in the recent DCAU comics he has written, he retconned the story so that Nora died right after she was cured. That whole comic is pretty bad as it also squeezed Jason Todd into the Batman TAS time line where there was no room for it.

I think that's a fair thought to have, but it was already tragic because by the time she was cured, Freeze had already deteriorated so much that he couldn't be with her.

I was upset when I saw Freeze become a villain again in TNBA after the subzero movie, however it was completely overshadowed by my initial dislike of the artstyle (which I've since warmed to) and the Batman-Batgirl thing (which I'll always hate)

Also are you talking about that new comic they've been doing, the batman adventures continues? I was actually excited for more batman adventures since I really liked the DCAU comics and was planning on reading them after I finish my BTAS watch through this year.

I couldn't resist and saw an image of Jason Todd. He... kinda just looks like ras al ghul. Like a son or something. He even has a streak of white hair. Weird that they have him when I was told that Tim Drake in DCAU was an amalgam of both tim and jason's backstories.

Also it's funny because in the canceled Batman Adventures volume 2, they had a Red Hood character who turned out to be Andrea Beumont's mom. The most random of random. And now I guess they're doing red hood the jason todd version? Doesn't quite fit dcau...

Ugh yeah I remember. Not only did I read that, I've actually tried reading and skimmed a lot of the Batman Beyond 2.0 comics. I was really intrigued by Justice League Beyond being about the Justice Lords' universe and how messed up that is in relation to Terry so I went back. And a lot of those comics are awful. They're just so... comic booky and not DCAU.

Like there's a story where Kirk Langstrom becomes a permanent Manbat and can talk and everything like how Hulk and Bruce merged into one, and he turns a young girl that he "rescued" into a manbat and mates with her and they have manbat children. . It was utterly repulsive and I couldn't sit through that comic

Yeah the current comic is written by Paul Dini and Alan Burnett so I was really excited for it. I was expecting a return to greatness of the Batman TAS universe. Instead they spent the whole first year of the run messing with the established timeline.

In theory I am not against Jason Todd in the DCAU but it just didn't work at all.

The Mr. Freeze thing angers me more because it just felt like Dini was taking out his anger.

It's from when she was introduced in the comics and TV show. She used to be a librarian around Bruce's age. Later, they deaged her to around Dick's age.

It was exceptionally bad in the Killing Joke. I mean, everything about that one was bad, but how Barbara was treated throughout was unnecessarily worse.

Honestly after I heard what they did to freeze in new 52, it made that seem like small potatoes by comparison.

Was that when we learn that Nora was frozen before Victor was even born, and he got so possessed by her so he made up a story of how they were lovers and he went crazy and believed it?

I mean it makes sense that Dick drifted so far away from the batfamily. He cut them off almost completely.

Dick never showed up in the Batman Beyond show, but in the comics a big part of why he hated Barbara was because after they broke up, she hooked up with his adopted father.

Nightwing knew it was fucked up and wrong like most people here do.

Barbara seemed more interested in Bruce than he was in her. I think she kept advancing on him until it became a fling. But obviously it didn't work out, and it never would have.

That sounds stupid and the writer should be fired and their writing license and writing gun taken away.

And if I remember right, the new reason he was interested in cryogenic was because his mother fell into icy water when he was a kid. She only survived until help arrived because she got frozen. She would be in pain because the cold destroyed her nerve endings or something like that, so kid Victor decides to solve it by throwing her into the same icy water, killing her.

Hell Barbara in BTAS was introduced having a straight up wet dream to show her crush on Batman. And it only got worse from there.

Stuff like that doesn't help the image of comic books, but new 52 was a special kind of awful. It felt like it lasted so long too.
