Finished Rum Punch, by Elmore Leonard. You might know it as the book that resulted in the movie Jackie Brown, or Leonard because his books inspired Justified. I can see why his stuff works on TV/movies,but as a book I found it a little understated for my tastes.

Very cool, an author I know and have read before. Never got much out of his modern/crime settings but he's my favorite Western writer. Valdez is Coming is definitely top ten material.

I finished Volume 2 of Preacher last night, so i'm on book 18 I think. Hadn't done much reading the last few days.

It's hard to rattle me, but the coffin punishment thing stuck with me, not sure why. Maybe it taps into a couple fears, but the thought of that is so awful.

I feel you, it really made my skin crawl. I'm still working through the second year, been too busy to read much this weekend. Maybe tomorrow.

I'm looking at trying Sara by Ennis, read the first volume of The Boys. Been on a dark kick lately, still pushing through Preacher. Humperdoo!

Haven't heard of Sara/heard of The Boys but haven't read it. I might pick something else up to read alongside Preacher, too.

Quite a few people in other communities said this was their favorite book by Ennis, has a lot of praise so i'm gonna get to it soon.

The Boys is about on par with Preacher for shock value and graphic content, I watch the series so I kind of knew what I was in for but it's still pretty wild.

The covers are beautiful though, love em.

I'm about at the point where Amy shows up in Preacher with Tulip, vol 3 somewhere when Starr is trying to find a solution to cover his uh, head.

Anyone know anything about the Vox Machina comic run? Wife's birthday is coming up and she loves the animated series, mentioned it's something she would probably read so I'm gonna grab the first volume I think.

Lol that part was hilarious, great use of repeating panels.
Gonna take a short break from Preacher and start The Boys.
I'm unfamiliar with Vox Machina but looking it up quick, Dark Horse did a Library Edition of the first 2 volumes. Usually their LEs are very high quality, oversized pages, good printing and binding--trade off being the size/weight. Might be worth checking out, its about 22$ on Amazon right now.

Finished vol 3 of Preacher also

Found one called Stone Star that's a Comixology original, not many by them have praise but this one does, giving me Guardians of the Galaxy vibes early.

I'm really into this Stone Star so far, some weird sci-fi mobile spaceship that anchors to planets and holds and broadcasts gladiator battles, if you are familiar with Mojo at all in Marvel, it's a bit like that. Main character meets a retired gladiator, that seems to be heavily respected and recognized everywhere he goes. He sees a blip of energy from a scavenger kid and takes interest, wants to train him, that's about where i'm at.

The review stated the US releases were omnibus format/two books combined into one, so probably just a few things shuffled around to suit that.

So wife had her birthday a couple days ago and I did wind up getting her that vol 1 of Vox Machina, had no idea if she would get into it. Well she brought it to work and read the entire thing in a day, and she grabbed my Hawkeye by Fracton today to start at work. It's gonna be cool if she gets into this too, I've been pretty obsessed this last year with comics and graphic novels.

Actually got time to read this weekend and finished up both Preacher AND The Boys. Usually Hitman goes under the radar so it was nice to see Garth include the three in one thought for the last volume of Boys.

Preacher thoughts:
Fantastic covers
I really liked Cassidy and Jesse's friendship until the whole Tulip thing
Ending was nice. I think it would have had more impact if not for the previous spoiler, though.

The Boys thoughts:
Ending was a good middle ground between Preacher and Hitman
I enjoyed the Preacher references I spotted, and it was fun seeing which cape comics Garth had a bone to pick with
The characters were fairly solid, I wouldn't say any in particular were my stand out favorites, but they were an interesting bunch. Good visual design on all The Boys.

That being said, for me...Hitman is still the peak.

MabusIncarnate posted... Happy birthday to her and I hope she does too, haven't read it myself but I do remember the good reviews MF Hawkeye received.
